https://twitter.com/MMeghanMcCarthy/sta ... 2804366336 Fuck. So it's an arc between the finale of season 3 and the two-part opener of season 4.

So if Twilight becomes a princess at the end of Season Three, what could the next two episodes of Season Four be about...?

Maybe that she can switch her Alicorn powers on/off so things can go back to the status-quo for the show to go on and sell more toys.

That was... alright. The songs weren't terrible. It was touching enough. The pacing was breakneck but making it a musical helped. And even Celestia got a song. Hot daisies. Her animation looked wonky though. Also, Twilight saying everything is fine at the end is like a subtle bit of foreshadowing. "Don't worry! Everything is fine!" says the person leaning against the guard rail they don't know is rusted.

Yeah, I agree that it was OK and HOLY COW THE PACING. WOW.

I REALLY wish they would have spent some more time developing the plot and conflict of this episode. It would have been so much better if they had kept the musical format, but made it a two-parter.

I was also a little upset that the Cutie Mark song and the True Friend song(which was leaked earlier) were the best/longest songs in the episode.

All in all, it had a lot of missed potential.

From what I can gather from this episode, especially Celestia's song and the montage of Twilight's life, it seems to me like Season Three was supposed to be the last season, but for one reason or another they decided to add another season.

Probably because they didn't know if they were getting another season when they started writing it or they really wanted this episode to mark the start of a new era. Who knows. Also, I take back what I said earlier. All the songs aren't terrible except for one where Twilight is moping. That one I bodaciously laughed at.

Oh geez, what happened with that one?

All in all I'm not too upset with this episode because they were clearly trying something new and it didn't work out. As long as they learn from and improve on it, it's fine.

http://diddgery.tumblr.com/post/4325699 ... ll-toys-to One of my friends wrote this and my feelings pretty much mirror his. (Aside from Just for Sidekicks. I liked that episode)

Your friend has a lot of good points, and I agree with most of what he said, although I actually liked the season opener.

Also I don't see having Luna featured as fan service, and it was really nice to have her roles and abilities elaborated on in an interesting way.

So a lot of people are saying this was supposed to be the season finale, but hasbro needed a new character to sell dolls and they bumped it back to this season.

Apparently the finale for this season was supposed to be the equestrian games, and a big party A la the grand galloping gala.

Watched it two times now, still don't really know how to feel about the finale.

Like some people already said here, the whole cutie mark switching thing was way too fast paced, and I really dislike how they had to make the finale a musical, despite some songs being kinda nice, yet I will say I like Alicorn Twilight, and I am somewhat curious where they'll take things further from here. Though I guess we won't find out until about nine months later orso.

I don't care about alicorn Twilight. I really don't. It was nothing but a move by Hasbro to sell more toys and that's kind of shitty, but it opens up some more narrative paths whilst doing relatively little harm to the established setup. And according to Tara Strong in a recent interview, Twilight stays in ponyville and is still an alicorn so whatever. As for the next season, it's more like 7 or 8 months but yeah basically. BUT HEY. WE HAVE EQUESTRIA GIRLS TO FILL THE VOID. HA. HA HA. HA.

At least she won't be an alicorn in there.

Btw, if you didn't read the thing I posted before, there's a quote I wanna pull.
Quote:
It’s trying really, really hard to serve as a marketing tool for toys AND entertain small children AND appeal to its older fans with frequent shoutouts and appearances from characters popular in the fandom, and it doesn't feel like it’s working all that well compared to when it was focusing mostly on entertaining children.
This feels like it's so true now. Back when it when it was Lauren just trying to make a good cartoon for little girls and Hasbro selling toys of it's characters separately, it was so nice. Now... Well, you've seen.

EDIT: Shit. Even Katie knows what's up.

Image

EDIT2: I tried looking at this episode critically and oh god please don't this episode is actually super bad. Well, at least the comics are super good.
