To be perfectly fair, he did give Tesla a place to start working on AC power, and while I'd still blame him for those killings, he was working under the orders of J.P. Morgan, a banker. The same banker who threatened to sue Westinghouse(the small company he was partnered with, and later "left" in order to allow them to sell AC power without royalty requirements) for "patent infringement" involving AC power, unless they gave over the rights to AC current. Westinghouse founder, George Wesinghouse, would have been unable to afford to win such a case without going under.

J.P. Morgan collects 51% of Edison's stock, changes the name to General Electric, and eventually fires Edison.

From The History Channel's "The Men Who Built America" telling the rise to power of the men who shaped this country after the death of President Lincoln, John Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Angrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, J.P. Morgan, Henry Ford, and President Theodore Roosevelt.

Edison promised Tesla a huge amount of cheddar for fixing the problems with his generators and when he succeeded after several months Edison laughed and said "Oh Tesla, you just don't understand our American humor."

Edison invented nothing. He didn't even improve anything. It was his employees whose work he took and claimed credit for.

Incorrect, Edison did invent something, that being the modern usage of the word "Hello" as a greeting, rather than it's previous usage as an expression of surprise

Edison is a dick, and I don't like him, but he did invent or at least help in inventing some seriously important things.
Nikola Tesla is my science husbando, and is perfect. Except that he was pretty crazy before he died.

I've done much more research than skimming Wikipedia on Edison.

Yeah, Madican saw a whole documentary on the History Channel.

It was on after Ancient Aliens and before Nostradamus' impact on Christianity.

Also, I find it funny that spell check knows Nostradamus.

I guess I shouldn't tell you that this is entirely due to a single Oatmeal comic.

I like how you're both assuming no one could possibly have done their own research that wasn't solely Wikipedia and the only way anyone would have done said research is after reading a comic strip.

Oh wait, no I don't like that. At all.

Alright! Things you didn't know!
Quote:
"Japan’s first robot buddy cop movie, a silent film released in 1919, was shown only once, to an assembly of wealthy land owners in Tokyo. When the film ended, the audience demand for affordable giant robots to work their fields and control the peasants was so insistent, emperor Hirohito had the only copy of the film impounded and destroyed to prevent the idea from capturing the public’s imagination.

Today, this photo is all that remains of the film’s existence. Even the title of the movie has been lost to history."

I searched Tumblr for like 15 minutes trying to find this.

EDIT: Nevermind, I went through all the notes. Tumblr has failed me.

Quote:
No, no, you guys, this isn’t true. The guy’s name was Yasutaro Mitsui, the robot was called a “Steel Humanoid”, and far from being a robot buddy cop film, he was an inventor showing off his work.

Don’t make shit up about history without tagging it, Wil Wheaton! People are going to believe you!

Personally, I would take any sort of information requiring crudely drawn cartoons to complete the point with a small car full of salt, especially when it's the oatmeal.

Slightly related: gigantor the lovable Japanese crime fighting robot was originally a concept for a robot intended to be a weapon against the allied forces. They left this out when it transferred over to the United States...for reasons.

Photo? What photo?

Let's all argue about how you can't go posting quotes that pertain to a photo and not also post the photo that the quote is pertaining to.

I can not stress how much I am angered by your post and its lack of photo.

And not at all unnecessarily so.

Angryangryangry.

Oh so angry.

This page is hilarious.
