Okay math experts, I need your help. I usually have no problems with simultaneous equations but I haven't solved one like this before and I don't know where to start. What steps would I take to get around to solving either x or y? This could be what I need to pass my exam tomorrow so urgent help would be appreciated.

4/(x+1) + 7/(4(2-y)) = 9
3/(2(x+1)) + 7/(2-y) = 7

Solve one of the equations for either x or y and then substitute that in the other equation. Or do you have problems doing that?

Yes, I know how it's supposed to be done, but I don't know where to start when all of the terms in both equations have x or y in their denominators. There's probably some obvious rule I'm missing here.

You could do something like
4/(x+1) + 7/(4(2-y)) = 9
4/(x+1) + 7/(4(2-y))-9 = 0
7/(4(2-y))-9 = -4/(x+1)
(x+1)*(7/(4(2-y))-9) = -4
(x+1) = (-4)/(7/(4(2-y))-9)
etc.

Phew, finally solved it, thanks a lot. I spent a long time scratching my head until I figured out that a/(a/b) +b = 0.
I just hope this will be of help tomorrow.

Hmmm, a/(a/b) = a* b/a = b

b + b = 0
b= 0

but a/b is a thing in that so...

I think there's something not quite right still.

I got the right answers. Y was 0, X was 97/65. They fit in the first equation if I am to trust my calculator.

Maybe why a double jump would never happen.

And then later when/if you need a psychology assignment, why people put double jumps in games.

Bumping this thread up from the second page.

Got a test later today. Studying is definitely feeling like cramming now. I have the basics down, I'm pretty sure, but I wish I knew how specific the test questions will be.

I know how you feel. I've got finals tomorrow in three of my classes. Biology, English, and Algebra II. I should do just fine in my English and Algebra classes, but I'm not sure how I'll do in Biology. I did just fine last trimester in Biology, but I had a different teacher that actually gave us notes. My current one just kinda talks to us and tells us things. I can't learn like that. Oh well, I'll just wing it and see how I do.

Got Probability Theory Exam in 33 hours. I'm 20% done studying. I can do that.
