Which is progressive and fantastic, if you have an ereader, which many do not. I was unaware that you can lend them, heartening to hear, but again, restricted to owners of ereaders. As I said, print books are autonomous; they require nothing but light.

I dont have any e-reader, have no intention of getting one, and I prefer the solid weight of books. I got enough fragile, expensive electronics as it is.

Oh, I do hope that physical forms of any sort of media will never dissapear - I was talking from a practical standpoint rather than a sentimental or cultural one. I understand perfectly well why people don't like the idea of complete digitalization of entertainment media that has traditionally been physical, such as books, music, movies and games. Most people like having shelves filled with discs in plastic cases even if a cheaper digital version exists. This is especially true when it comes to books and avid readers because having a wall-sized bookshelf full of literature is certainly more inspiring (for the lack of a better word) than having the same books in a tiny memory card. I was referring to the actual procedure of reading a book, where ereaders become very practical by offering tons of functions and huge libraries in a light-weight, functional package. If you simply prefer physical books, I understand that very well, but I'm not one of those people because I'm not a very sentimental guy and place practicality before anything else.

The main reasons I don't have an e-reader are
1) I can better concentrate on reading a physical book than reading hundreds of pages off a screen. Dunno why, maybe because I can better see the progress through the book on the physical one.
2) A book is less likely to get stolen and cheaper replaced than an e-reader. And if your e-reader gets stolen it's like your whole personal library is gone not just 1 book.

1) it actually helps me if I don't know how much I have left because I tend to stress over pointless stuff like that way too much. I find it more relaxing when I'm not worrying about when the book's gonna end.
2) depends. I'm not sure how it works with the bigger commercial ereaders like the Kindle but I'm pretty positive that like with all digital media, it's never permanently lost. Either you have backups or the books are tied to your account.

Yeah, I rather meant getting a new e-reader which is a lot more expensive than buying a new copy of a book when it's broken or stolen.

There is something magical about going through a full bookshelf, you have an infinite possibility of finding interesting things to read.

Then people find me weird when I start fondling their bookshelves.

Fun Fact: People with large bookshelves full of good and interesting books are incredibly attractive.

I used to have a ton of books as a kid, but most of those are in storage now after I moved away from home, theres not really room for them in my apartment. My current book shelf is crammed full of graphic novels instead XD

all of this. same with game and movie cabinets - it feels a bit narcissistic? but i love showing off my collections of things and having them on prominent display.

I think that it's part of some psychology thing. Having lots of shit makes people feel good, but having lots of digital shit makes you feel like you own less because it's not physical.

Example: "I own all of this!" [Points at bookshelf full of novels, videogames and comics]
Compared to:
"I own all of this!" [Points to stuff on a tablet, Steam Library, or file folder size in GBs]

Which looks more impressive to the average person? The stack of books/media on the shelf, or the digital inventory?

Having a library in your home is pretty swag though.

I just imagined if bookshelves were replaced by literal home computers.

Finished both John Dies at the End and This Book is Full of Spiders. I think I liked the first one better.
