Main complaints:
-Campaign:They could have handled the plot a LOT better. The game takes a large portion of the story from the books. Characters from the book pop up such as Didact and The Librarian, but people who have never read the books don't know who the hell they are. The average gamer isn't going to know shit about these guys. And the huge exposition bomb in the middle of the game with The Librarian won't make any sense unless you've read the novels or if you find the hidden terminals in the game that give out important story points. Regarding the terminals, it is bad game design to hide important story elements in secret collectibles like that. So yeah, the plot makes sense... but only if you've been paying attention to the Expanded Universe.

-Multiplayer: The fact that they replaced the respawning weapons that always respawn in the same place with ordinance drops annoys me greatly. They could have had both Ordninance drops for instant weapons because you earned it by getting kills, AND letting people pick up weapons on the map like all the other previous games so that they could keep the fight hectic and changing rather than just blasting everyone with their favorite zoomed weapon of choice.

The final boss fight of Halo 4 was quite disappointing, but I'm hoping that enough people will tell 343 that this is the case and that they will actually listen.

I popped quite a few dudes with that weapon earlier today.
Speaking of magnetically-propelled projectiles, it's nice to see that the Gauss Hog is still hilariously overpowered.

It seems like it takes longer to reload/recharge in 4, though.

Well I caved in and bought it.

2 complaints: No weapons in the Multiplayer maps, and Halo Points? Really 343?

But yeah, we should get a play date going this weekend.

Well, first we should agree on a time, and what with time zones and the such, this could be difficult.
I'm Atlantic Standard Time, AST.

Central time, CMT. I'm good all weekend, unless something turns up.

Yeah, same here. Worst comes to worst, I'm interrupted for like, 5 minutes and have to move the Xbox.

I don't really have set times I'm available because of my chaotic schedule at work, but I'll be on frequently.

So I just played through some 5 campaign missions and a few rounds of Spartan Ops with a friend. Here are my thoughts so far:

- I've always thought that Halo has a better story than most sci-fi games out there yet the story in 4 is a clusterfuck and honestly didn't really grab my attention, though being slightly tired and kinda rushing through the levels contributed to that. But we're entering fantasy scifi levels of writing here while the earlier games were fairly down to earth (no pun intended)
- gameplay is solid though the first impression was bad with those QTEs. I'm kinda iffy on the Forerunner weapons, they're fun to use and all but they kinda seem out of place and I'm having trouble remembering what each weapon does because they all look kinda samey
- I still think that Halo was best with 3's minimal amount of customization. The series doesn't need a constant sprint button either.
- the armor designs are way worse than in 3 and Reach. 3 had a limited variety but each piece was recognizable, Reach expanded upon that in an okay manner. I just couldn't make a sense of the mess that it is in 4 now.
. the menus could've been done better, they were just fine in earlier games

All in all it was alright 8/10 fun. I haven't played proper mutltplayer yet mind you and it'll probably be weeks until I get around to that. I don't feel any more obliged to buy the game than I did before trying it.

Yeah, like I said the problem is that 343 does a horrible job at introducing the characters from the expanded universe and explaining the fact that the story is based off of the novels, and explaining exactly what the hell went on in said novels.

I still think that a lot of the helmets for the Spartan IV's look cool, but the leg/chest/arm armor is all same-y and that annoys me.

The most important thing that 343i can do right now is listen to people on how to make the game and its sequels better.

COME ON DIET LET'S FUCK 'EM UP!

So yeah, we played Spartan Ops and that was fun.

Finished campaign, liked it, found out that there ARE weapons in the multiplayer maps, and I love this game.

Man, now we just need wicked sick forge maps and the game is complete...
