I took Taekwondo when I was like 9 or 10, I only got up to yellow belt because I was a weenie and wanted to quit. I remember the test to get up to yellow belt was to break a board in half with your elbow, and I never did it but I passed based on "effort".

Nowadays, though, I'm really fascinated with anything martial arts related (Avatar: The Last Airbender, anyone?) so I'm thinking I'll get back into it. I signed up for a self-defense class next semester, I think I'll go through all the martial arts-related classes at the university just for fun.

Just compared them. He copied the entire post as if it were run through Babelfish to Chinese and back to English.

I've been wanting to learn a martial art for a long time now. Either Jiu-Jitsu or something that doesn't require a huge amount of flexibility and/or agility. Possibly Judo? Something that favors strength and body size. >_>

I sort of want to learn judo too. That or aikido. Yeah aikido would probably work better for me.

Or you could just, you know. Take a realistic approach to something and expect to work on the rudimentary skills for a while and gradually get better, during the course of which you would gain the physique needed to be good at it.

If you train in martial arts you'll become plenty strong and flexible. But if you're thinking of Ju-jitsu, make sure to read up on which school you're planning to attend, because there's a very large amount of Ju-jitsu styles that specialize in different things.

My friends have started practising MMA techniques in one of the guys' basement. It's mostly for shits and giggles, I wish I could join in but unfortunately I'm not usually available when they do it.

Things like armbars and triangle holds. Also some basic takedowns. Are you familiar with MMA matches?

Isn't MMA an event, not a fighting style or a martial art type?

Sort of, it's a type of match that allows both hitting, kicking and grappling and has martial artists of all kinds competing. However, the sport has evolved into a blend of different styles that has been proven most effective. So when I say MMA techniques, I mean techniques that are commonly used in MMA matches and have been proven effective.

UFC is an example of an MMA event.

Oh, Tomorrow I'm going to go through the second of three intermediary tests to get a second dan/degree black belt in TKD.
Pity my schedule means that I'm going to get 5 hours, tops, of sleep tonight. Oh well, I can handle that.
