Yeah but those were actually annoying enough to make you want to not die. They were usually spaced JUST FAR ENOUGH away so they were extra annoying when you died and had to go all the way back. It was a kinda nice system of punishment, but yeah it did still make you not give as much potential shit as you could.

Been thinking about things and I've decided again that going with a two weapon limit is stupid when everything worked fine before in the other two games. Here's what only having two weapons will possibly mean for the game (Keyword "possibly"):
-Remove different ammo types from the game. You have a regular SMG and then you have a minigun, what's the point of having ammo types that do more damage in a certain situation or do cool things when you can just pick up a mini gun that's most likely designed to kill everything?
-Remove the ability to experiment. In the first two games, you had every single weapon at your disposal. This allowed you to experiment with different weapon/plasmid types at any time to create interesting combinations at a moment's notice. Now, you can only have two weapons at any given time. That means that you can only experiment with the weapons you have on you at the time, and with the weapons that enemies drop.
-It leads to situations in other FPSes in which you want to save one gun because it's so good, limiting you to one weapon, when in the previous two games you never had to do that.
-The games pace may not be suited for a simple two weapon limit. If it's anything like the previous games, which had action/adventure vibes, then two disposable weapons would just feel weird.

All in all, I really am depressed that they would drop the old FPS game method for what every other AAA shooter is doing.

Just saw the new gameplay from VGA'12

I love how the Handyman behaves in battle.

So every review I see is saying the equivalent of "10/10 GOTY" but in tons more words. Getting hyped, but then I read a comment on one of the articles (gasp) that said "Just a reminder, ME3 was 10/10, too."

So is this game really breathtakingly amazing and worth the cheddar?

Every single review I'm reading makes it sound like this game is Jesus reborn and that it will cure cancer. I think I'll let the kneejerk hype die down a bit before I even consider purchase.

The tutorial is some of the best design I have ever seen in a video game. The graphics are beautiful. The world looks alive, and the characters are fantastic.

There may be kneejerk reactions, but this is a good game. This is quite easily the best game in the series, and it deserves a lot of the praise it gets.

I'm a few hours in and I'm really enjoying it so far. I have a few gripes though.

- the save system or to be precise, the lack of it. You're entirely reliant on autosave which saves the game every 10-15 minutes or so. I'd like some control.
- having a talking protag is fine but the kind of monologue he does sounds nothing like a real person would do. It's like in addition to the pointer, you've got a voiced guide going "hmm I should go there and do this" which I find unnecessary because the game's linear so it's not like you're likely to get stuck.
- I'm kinda mixed about the whole infinite respawn thing. I know 1999 mode disables it but you should be able to die in a game like this. I never used the vita-chambers in 1 or 2 either.

Other than that though, it's been a blast.
