Yes, that was great. I love how they decided to strike at their fans who were tired of them talking about the game being very derivative.

I've just recently been catching up with the Game Grumps, and I really disagree. I think the biggest thing fans complained about with the Mario videos was that they really weren't as fun to watch. I mean, there's usually a lot more of them bullshitting around, talking about memories from the game they're playing/past games, or yelling at eachother for fucking shit up. Like Goof Troop had me in fucking stitches.

But the Mario one, to quote them, just feels soulless, and it seems like their frustrations over their opinion of the game's lack of innovation is clouding their ability to just fuck around like they usually do, which was the reason they abandoned Conker before it made it to the channel.

I dunno, maybe it'll get better later, but right now, I'm wishing I'd spent that time watching them play the Mario game on something else.

EDIT: 2 videos later and I'm back to dying. Good to know I don't have the abandon the Mario videos entirely.

I'm reading Dark Id's Crhono Cross LP, and there are alot of spelling grammer and other such typographical mistakes.

Eh, you can't expect a massive LP like that to be flawless. I still think it's a great LP.

General Ironicus goes into great detail as to why PewDiePie is immaturity at its finest. Definitely worth a read.

I don't know where else to talk about it but Chip and Ironicus started up Blip Theater recently, and the first one was pretty good.
"AND: he's BLACK. :colbert: "

Also, watching the Pokécrew's Mario Party lps between updates of the Force Sword Adventures lp is kinda like you never stopped watching the same lp.

About the Game Grumps: I have come to the conclusion that JonTron is the worst part of it all. He is a blithering manchild who believes that yelling at the top of his lungs is actually funny. I would love to see EgoRaptor and another more sensible person play games together rather than sit down and have JonTron pierce my eardrums.

Jon's pretty good though. Sometimes he gets a bit annoying, but more often than not, he fucks with Ego and gets him out of his more serious gripey mode.

I'm iffy about their Emerald series though. While it's one of the funniest ones (Mainly because Jon's an idiot and misnames everything), Jon isn't even attempting to pay attention anymore and was bored with it. And Pokemon's not exactly a fast enough paced game where they could get something accomplished anytime soon. We'd be looking at a 100+ video series, possibly with a bit of grinding or a lot of losing.

I think that John has ADHD or something. I also think that if Ego had control of Kirby in Great Cave Offensive, they would have made more progress instead of Jon just quitting.
They started Shenmue today as well, and I am pretty daisies sure that Jon is going to try and convince Ego to give that up too after a few videos. And whatever happened to their playthrough of Yoshi's Island? I thought that was Jon's favorite game of all time?

They keep starting all of these games and never finish them. Jon and Ego should just do some one-shot videos to sate Jon's ADHD and then go do some complete playthroughs of games.

I feel that John is the weak link of the Game Grumps myself, but I wouldn't quiet call him a "Blithering Manchild" either. He isn't exactly stupid, nor incorrect about his approach to comedy-as he seems to have quiet the following on his own. On the other hand, I feel that he would be pop flyin' to allow Game Grumps to degrade into "yelling in funny voices over video games, always, forever," rather then take time out to be more analytical of a game. If I were to put a reason on it, I would say that John sees the more comedy-centric approach to be safer, as series that were more critical of the game are often met with criticism (The NSMBWii play-through stands out in my mind.)

The main problem John suffers from-and this really goes for GG as a whole- is that he isn't good at wording his points in an understandable, un-emotionally-charged way. I understand the complaints they had about NSMBWii, but the run-through just boiled down to the saying the word "soulless" quiet a bit, without fully understanding what they mean by that. GG suffers because they treat it as an analytical engine at times, but without the same thought and care as their normal works. This is baffling to me, as they have admitted that the editing is the strength of their work, which they, off course, don't do with GG.

As an example, I personally find Arin's Sequalitis to be a very interesting and thoughtful series, but the similar subject matter-changes between sequels- that came up in the LTTP play-through felt hollow and reaching in presentation. John himself actually brought up a good point during the debate, in that OOt has much better set design. But he completely flubbed wording this point correctly, and Arin missed the overall point, thinking he was just referring to set design themes. Durring the debate, both of them read as more biased then objective, and at times petty in their points ("IT'S A CLASSIC").

GG feels somewhat hollow to me, as a whole, and lacking significantly. John's methods and standards are an issue that drag GG down to a degree, but GG is flawed in other ways, and has much larger issues.

tldr; YEAH, KINDA, I GUESS, ALMOST, SORTA.

When the GGs were playing Mega Man 7, they were great at talking about the actual game and had a good back and forth between info about the game and joking about how ridiculous some elements of it were. Now they're content with singing show tunes for a good 3 minutes straight during a game. Yeah, there was that 7 ASSES thing but overall it was a good playthrough.

Oh they have their moments, especially during their creation. But as they went on, and seemed to be more interested in just putting something out, it all just fell apart.

As a side note, GG really seems like it might be John's "thing." I'm not sure, because I obviously don't know the behind-the-sceens, but that might be what drives GG's aims as a show. That's just the feeling I get, though.

That's a good point. Oftentimes it really does feel like Ego is being dragged along for the ride. If that is actually the case, he must be some kind of wizard at making the best of a bad situation.

The only part of all of this that really gets me is that there is a Zelda and a MGS Sequalitis that I still don't have.

ALL I WANT IS SILLY SWEARING AND YELLING INTERSPACED WITH INTERESTING AND GOOD POINTS. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?

I agree. I really want to hear Ego talk about MGS.

They keep starting all of these games and never finish them. Jon and Ego should just do some one-shot videos to sate Jon's ADHD and then go do some complete playthroughs of games.

They record a huge chunk of videos at once. I think the first month or so of Game grumps was the same weekend, since Jon was sick through most of the videos at that time. So once they run out of that game, they have other games they post until they get back to playing that game. That's why Kirby had a one month hiatus.

And remember, them abandoning games has more to do with them thinking the quality of the videos are going to be crap, either because they're not generating anything funny (Conker), or the game itself has become a bit of a burden (Secret of Mana). Really, as much as Jon was fucking around with the Great Cave Offensive, Arin seemed to be getting annoyed at it too near the end, and not just because of Jon's antics, and the videos were really fucking boring to get through.

I've personally enjoyed the vs. videos a lot, especially the Mario Party ones, though Arin did come across as a bit frustrated with Jon over some of the mini-games.

I dunno, I think they're both coming up with games they'd like to do, but sometimes I think one or the other just isn't into it. Jon seems really hesitant about ALttP, and doesn't make as much commentary on it until Arin probes him into the conversation, and Arin sometimes just seems like a fish out of water if he has nothing to discuss with Jon.

And then, of course, there's the issue of them getting lost every 5 minutes...
