Bought it not long after I made it down to a bit with a ladder and ...about 4 giant skeletons. Killed three of them and while climbing down the ladder was hit by the last one and knocked through the level. So yeah.... Izalith it is.

The light hat works just as well as the spell :P

Btw, the hornet ring prior to the dlc is amazing against Gwyn. I took out a third of his health in one parry before he killed me.

So I've started making a STR/INT character.
I'm gonna be casting spells a wee bit slower but I think it'll turn out ok.

Why? You can match the melee capability of the STR build with an Enchanted weapon.
