Would it just be redundant to use someone's life essence to power an offensive spell meant to kill that person?

It sounds really redundant, but also wicked efficient/kickass.

Solaris managed to get into contact with some greater being who taught him (or corrupted his mind) the knowledge of the type of power life magic can get him, which basically gave him a pure lust for power. Though it would seem that he himself is unable to use it so he had that greater being summoned to the Aikonian plane.

Current evil mage lady person (being said greater being) that possessed other lady mage person is either a decendant of an age where life magic was still practiced in secret and got trapped in the magical realm (?), then got summoned to Aikonia.. Or she was a powerful b/witch that got trapped and was released into the body of Ariel.

OR, given by the "Long before my time, they thought they had succeeded" line suggests to me that LONG before they started eradicating the life-magic users, evil mage lady was too powerful for them to destroy (Veil magic was probably undiscovered at this time so there probably just wasn't anyone strong enough to kill her) so they instead sealed her somewhere, and she was forgotten. Solaris discovered something about her tomb and decided to release her for whatever reason. Given the type of setup used when she was.. 'summoned into' Ariel, it definitely looks like a type of seal being broken. Example; Final Fantasy 9 Eidolons. Someone has got to know what I'm talking about. The ritual is used twice.

The council was originally formed to rid the world of people who practiced life magic, but at the same time drown out the knowledge of it's use with Veil magic.

Solaris probably felt that the benefits of life magic outweighed the downsides, but failed to realize that said evil mage person b/witch is just that.. straight-up evil, and now she's going apesh*t on the Aikonian plane. While he seems to still be kinda flustered from whatever the balls happened to him, he does seem to be regaining his full senses (before said corruption) and finally decides it's time to start explaining things.


All this is speculation that has popped into my head with like.. 3 seconds of thought, and that's generally all idea that has probably been mentioned before buuuut I'm lazy and dun feel like scanning through everything.

On a more related, less forethought..ish..thingy kinda note, using a persons own life force against them as an offensive beacon to kick their booty? Sign me up, I'd totally use some of that.

You use the people you're killing with Life Magic to power spells to kill another Life Magic user, presumably because Life Magic cannot affect itself.

Basically you bring along a busload of orphans and load their souls into a cannon. Pure Evil Dickery at its finest.

He's about to break off a piece of glass branch, stab her, and then use her life energy to magic something.

That's what slaves are for. No one is going to miss some petty slaves, they provide all the life energy you need to wage war and they can't stop you from doing it.

Well...yeah...I'm just saying that when you're using a type of magic the requires killing people to work to kill people, it'd be more efficient just to go directly to the source and kill the people you're trying to kill.

I mean...you'll have a spell going nowhere, but job's done...let's celebrate!

Solaris mentioned being able to use one's own life force to power spells, so I'd think that magi have considerably more life force than other people. Also they likely have some manner of control over their own life force and as such it probably cannot be used by another mage of equal power.

Granted, if Fish Demon Ariel knows how to use life magic, the King's army is not going to fare well against her.

No, it's more a whole lot of em making big life ball of death..

Or, considering they are IN the veil.. Big ball of death from the veil magic.

But I have a hunch it will not be so simple. Also.. what game?
