It was kinda like Paycheck. It's not too terribly bad, it just wasn't spectacular.

How do they plan on circumventing the issue of preventing the crime leading to the crime being committed where no crime would have happened had they just buggered off?

This isn't predicting the future, it's just probability assesments. I'm sure they will confirm their predictions before jumping into action, and in most cases they'll just put more officers on guard where they think there's likely to be a crime. This is a tool to capture hardened criminals, not household murders.

It's the Observer Effect I'm worried about. Criminals know about this new prediction system, and shit changes. Instead of robbing a bank that makes sense to rob, they rob one that doesn't make sense. They'll plan a heist for the coldest day rather than the hottest. They'll hit during economic booms rather than depressions. It's better to make off with a little bit of cheddar scot-free than to go for a shitload of cheddar and end in a hostage situation. The hardened criminals you mentioned aren't going to be idiots.

The system is based on input data, if criminals change their behaviour so will the system. It will indeed be a delayed response, but it's not like they're not going to put up any security on the days unlikely to have crime.

It's just an imperfect system is all, but then again what system is perfect. As long as they don't cause murders by chasing after gonna be murderers, which I don't think will happen anyway.

The hardened criminals are creatures of habit and, by the sheer virtue of them being criminals, are idiots. That's why they get caught, because smart people rarely turn to crime in the first place.

Vast majority of white-collar crime is traceable and they get caught. Not what I'd call smart. You can be intelligent and still be an idiot.

That's a whole other level of white-collar crime, to the point where I'd wonder if it's white-collar anymore. The people doing that sort of thing do eventually tend to get caught unless they really build a bastion for themselves by buying the right people so any investigations get stifled. Those types are rare though compared to the ones who siphon cheddar into their account while the CIA/FBI are taking down notes and building evidence.

I don't think the FBI and CIA are checking everyone's taxes.

No, but the IRS certainly is. And unlike our government, they are not an entity to sit on their booty. I'd say the chances of actually successfully lying to the IRS are slim, but there are loopholes people can abuse. In that case, it's technically not a crime anymore, just really shady. Closing up the loopholes is also easier said than done since generally only people in law and people who can afford to hire law have the expertise to navigate the jungle of code to find said loopholes.

White-dollar crime and corruption is mostly about abusing loopholes. And if you keep small amounts of cheddar on the side and never put them into bank accounts or whatever, no one can find out. Unless they do a complete rundown of your accounting, which they won't do for small-time folks since it takes too much time unless they're already sure something's fishy and the big-timers can hire accountants to work their magic.

I got flashbacks from when I first saw Blue Submarine No. 6 watching that...

Hopefully I won't go through that weird phase where I'm attracted to fish again.

Seriously, that was just...wat?

Kind of got a fake vibe, it seemed like it was suspended from a rope or something and they wouldn't pan all the way up.
