I hope Korra goes all Avatar State when Amon tries to take her bending away and then starts kicking his booty.

So now we know Energybending doesn't always have to be a big spectacle of lights and whatever

BUT if you notice when Aang energy bends he places his hands on the forehead and chest, while Amon places HIS hands on the forehead and back of neck

hmmmmm

It was then that Korra released an unparalleled display of Baby Bending, the likes of which no man had ever seen before.

What if Amon has created a form of spiritbending that acts as a forcefield or protects him from bending.

I think Amon is a bending black-hole. Bending loses power when it comes into contact with him. (apart from say the inertia from before it hits.) Might also be why part of why nothing can seem to touch him. It just loses power. Then when he blocks peoples bending he's really sucking it out.

I had a theory kind of like that. I looked for an explanation and decided that something is probably seriously wrong in the spirit world. Tarrlok/Yakone is probably an example of it too. The court did mention that he had been seen bloodbending on every night except the full moon, the exact opposite of how normal bending works. My theory is also helped along by the way Amon takes away bending. If you pay attention, he does it the opposite of the way Aang does it. Aang goes for the chest and forehead from the front, Amon does it with the forehead and spine from the back.

Add to that the fact that Korra is having some serious trouble getting in touch with the spiritual side of that Avatar business, and I think a lot of evidence points to some bad juju going down.

I've mentioned it before, but it seems like Spirit Bending has to have more than one application. Perhaps girding one's own energy is one of those apps. Perhaps it can even be used to enhance one's own physicality. Katara was also capable of resisting Blood Bending so it lends some credence to my thought that Amon might be a Bender who hates Benders.

It could also pave the way for the premise to the second season; which could maybe be that Korra finds that there's something wrong with the Spirit World and she needs to set things straight or all hell is going to break loose in the real world

Man does everyone remember the third X-Men movie? It was silly and bad but Amon is totally going to be like that "cure" mutant kid. He just neutralizes bending around him from some freak mutation, or he's somehow a "nothing"-bender. Does this mean he's spiritbending? Maybe, but it could just be something new yet related.

And I think he'll end up taking Korra's bending away in the season finale, and then Book 2 is her having to travel all across the world to re-learn everything and connect on a base spiritual level with all 4 elements.

This was a theory of mine, but they've already confirmed he'll be done with by the end of this season.
