I'm totally the hipster since VII is not my favourite.

But anyway, question still stands. XIII y/n?

For reference I liked... pretty much all of them except XII. I even liked X-2 a lot. Favourite is IX, X was pretty nice, VIII was okay, VII too, the 2D ones were not bad I guess. VI, V and IV are all somewhere between X and VIII on my scale, III I only played the DS remake and it was only okay IMO. I and II are probably lowest on my scale but still in front of XII.

So knowing that, would I like XIII?

If you get XIII, know that the tutorial lasts for around forty hours and it's you running up and down halls. Plot doesn't even get started until after that.

It's shit. Don't bother. Play a good JRPG instead.

It has pretty graphics and nice music.
It has mediocre gameplay.
It has a lame cast of characters, it has a story even more cliché than a Kingdom Hearts game that isn't compelling at all, it has a terrible pace, it's boring, too long, you have to grind for hours.

It's not the worst JRPG out there but I don't think it's worth anyone's time.

Gonna concur with everyone that 13 is shit. I've not played it but it looks so boring, your summons are dumb as hell, and you can bodaciously go have dinner and the game will fight your bosses for you. Ew.

I'd just like to put out there that if it's a possibility at all, you should play Breath of Fire IV for the PSX. It's a fairly basic JRPG, but the gameplay is fun in it's own right. The story and characters are amazing enough to make you want to play it all the way through.

I agree, Breath of Fire IV is a really good game. I would recommend playing Breath of Fire III too, which is my favourite from the series. Both games have big differences and while IV is smoother than III, I think III is more fun.

I prefer IV over III, but both are good. They're not linked in any way (except maybe they are but nobody knows for sure if or how) so you can just play any. The soundtrack is better in IV though, so you should probably just ignore anything Great Handsome Oppressor says.

I wish I still had Grandia II - the battle system in that was perfect - and the rest of the game scored pretty highly in my books.

Too much at once. I thiiiink I played BoF IV before on PC. Either that or III. It was for free on a CD in a PC magazine. Except they fucked up putting the data on the disc and it crashed always after a certain point.
Grandia II I didn't like the fighting system that much. And it won't even work on my current pc for some reason.

If it was a demo disc that was probably supposed to happen.

Nah, it was supposed to be the full game but they made some mistake. If you checked the files on the disc some were 0 byte big. They even apologized for it next issue but I didn't buy it so I didn't know until I came to the part where it crashed and googled the issue.
