I personally think that Korra might be a shorter series then the original avatar.

The original always had a diffrent place to go and a destination, it explored all over the avatar world and then went around and back again.

In Korra it looks like they are going to stay in the city for a long time, maybe if there is a second season they might explore more into the new world. Hell who knows where they are going with this.

They're supposedly only gonna make it 2 seasons. It's not supposed to be as long as the original.

They have already confirmed a second season.

I think you could get a lot out of a series that features a fully fledged Avatar.

I mean she is the universal peacekeeper. Shit goes down she's supposed to take care of it. You could do a lot of variation on that.

What I love about Korra is the lack of specified "direction", as opposed to Airbender. In Airbender the goal was always "Learn the elements asap and defeat firelord before comet", and that's what it was all about. The whole series was destined to end at a showdown before/during the comet, so there was that whole countdown looming over the whole series. As for Korra, it's completely open and free, and no one has any expectations for what's gonna happen. All we have right now is "Amon is trying to beat down Benders, so let's defeat him somehow". There's no countdown or time limit, there's no certainty that he'll be the only villain, the final villain, maybe other problems arise more dramatic than this. Who knows, we'll just have to watch and find out. And that's the beauty in it that I really enjoy. Not only does it have fantastic production values, but it has mystery to its destination that Airbender didn't. We all knew how it would end, but who knows where Korra'll go.

Sozin's Comet wasn't revealed until halfway through the first season. There could easily be a "time limit" established in Korra in the next few episodes - I can imagine a large event/uprising orchestrated by Amon might come up that Korra and the others have to stop, among other things. She also still has to "learn the elements ASAP" because she will need to master them to defeat Amon, especially if he can disable or take away someone's ability to bend. There could potentially be a larger enemy - I'm certain Korra will encounter problems with the city's government at some point, but they've done a sufficient job in establishing Amon as the primary antagonist.

Hadn't thought of that. Fair enough.

She's already pretty rad with the elements. She just needs practice and discipline. I think her main problems are social. This is a different era and different setting than The Last Airbender, so I can see her success hinging less on her fighting ability than her ability to re-unite the city and motivate them to stick together against the Equalists. She'll have a very very difficult time in a civil war-like area where her success bodaciously hinges on whether or not people like her and respect her or not. Aang didn't really have to deal with many anti-Avatar movements because not only wasn't there an Avatar for a century or two but they had much bigger problems. Aang very much had to deal with his problems through physical means, which conflicted with his character. Korra has no problem beating people up, but she has a tough time getting along with people, so I really do see that as her main conflict instead of "Gotta learn elements fast or I'll be beat up!"

It's not the beat up part. For her to resist Spiritbending requires her own spirit to be unbendable. In other words, she needs to get going on the spiritual part of being the Avatar. This will also unlock the Avatar State, but I don't think that's going to be needed much.

So, it's basically the opposite of what aang has to learn

in a way, at least. Interesting.

I wonder when, or if, we'll ever get to see Aang as an avatar apparition, like how Avatar Roku appeared and guided Aang himself.

It would be pretty cool to see Aang show up as a spirit with some commentary on the current situation.
"Tell my son to get the stick out of his butt. It's easier to Bend without a stick."
"Tell Lin that her mother never judged a person's character with her eyes."
"Tell Katara that she always had terrible morning breath."

I wasn't too dead-set on this at first, but I think the last episode won me over. Also I might have a small crush on Bolin..........

I just want to see someone take up the guise of the Blue Spirit. I think it would be cool to see that. I know that the Blue Spirit's mask was lost in Lake Laogai, but the legend probably lives on. Maybe he could be a bandit king, or a masked vigilante?
