Guess what guys? Numbers! Up to 999999. I could have gone higher, numbers are one of the easier things in German since it's mostly just mix and match.
Lesson 3: NumbersOkay we start off easy with the numbers from 0-10 aaaand that's almost everything you have to know.
0.....null
1.....eins
2.....zwei
3.....drei
4.....vier
5.....fünf
6.....sechs
7.....sieben
8.....acht
9.....neun
10.....zehn
Here's the file of me counting up from 0 to ten:
listen! Now from 11-20. 11 and 12 are different from the norm like in English.
Note that 16 is not sech
szehn but just sechzehn and 17 is not sieb
enzehn but siebzehn.
11.....elf
12.....zwölf
13.....dreizehn
14.....vierzehn
15.....fünfzehn
16.....sechzehn
17.....siebzehn
18.....achtzehn
19.....neunzehn
20.....zwanzig
Here's how it sounds:
listen! Now you basically know everything you need to know up to 99. You now only have to add the number from 1-9 like above for the single digit + und + the number for the 10 digit + -zig (or -ßig on 30 and 30 only)
21..... ein und zwanzig (spaces are just for emphasis, no spaces in the actual number)
22..... zwei und zwanzig
23..... drei und zwanzig
24..... vier und zwanzig
25.... fünf und zwanzig
26.... sechs und zwanzig
27..... sieben und zwanzig
28..... acht und zwanzig
29..... neun und zwanzig
Here's for listening, but I didn't record all the way to 29, that would've been redundant:
listen! You do the same for every other number up to 99.
30..... dreißig
40..... vierzig
50..... fünfzig
60..... sechzig
70..... siebzig
80..... achtzig
90..... neunzig
For listening:
listen! And for numbers over 100 you say the multiple of 100 you need and then the multiple of 10 you need.
100..... (ein) hundert (you can either just say "hundert" or add the "ein-" in front. Yet again, no spaces)
200..... zwei hundert
300..... drei hundert
you know the rest
listen!Example for a number over 100: 666 =
sechs hundert
sechs und
sechzig (without spaces of course) First how many hundreds you want, then hundred, then how many single digits you want, then und, then how many tens you want (remember the 6 and 7 rule further above), then zig (or ßig, look above for why).
Now the thousands so you can say numbers up to 999999
1000..... (ein) tausend ( "ein" is still optional, and no spaces of course)
2000..... zwei tausend
and so on
listen! You make numbers like with the hundreds. How many thousands + tausend, how many hundreds + hundred, how many singles, how many tens + zig/ßig
Example: 654321=
sechs hundert vier und fünfzig tausend
drei hundert
ein und
zwanzig
As you see for numbers over 10.000 you do the same like in English and just use the normal numbers for numbers over 10/100 in front of the tausend.
With your new knowledge you can now say your age (informal).
"I am <age>." becomes
"Ich bin <age>." Example:
"Ich bin einundzwanzig."So yeah. A lot of stuff today, but most is mix and match and you only have to remember the individual numbers and few exceptions along with the rule actually.
