Also, on the label thing, whether or not you have a label, people will discriminate if they think your views or identity is strange or offensive to them. Labels can be quite comforting to people seeking out their identity because it can give them a sense of who they truly are, and of course they are more convenient to say than just giving an entire explanation of your identity every time someone asks.

In all seriousness I think labels are pretty stupid and/or unnecessary. But that's just me.

EDIT: To clarify, I have tried using labels before. They never worked as a suitable 'explanation'. I still had to explain to people what 'asexual' meant, and they still acted like I was 'different' once they knew. Like my mom. She insists that it's just a phase and I'll 'find the right man eventually', and when he does he's going to want sex. She said sex in a marriage was expected by a man, which I don't think is always true. Sure it might be true in most cases, but people can still have pop flyin' and romantic relationships without sex. It's not impossible.

It bugs me more when people use the "There is no allies in the acronym, so why are you trying to join our group?" point.

I'm questioning, but it's really terrible when the "LGBT..." groups both for this area and at my college are assholes about letting allies join.

So while I don't think allies "deserve" to be part of the acronym (as people word it), I think it's utter bullshit to use that to make the group into an "exclusive club" rather than allow people who WANT to help and understand take part.

The NAACP isn't a black only organization. I don't see why this is any different.

oh, there's nothing wrong with straight/cis/whatever people joining. people supporting us/wanting to help is great. i just don't like the "pushing into the acronym" bit.

Yeah, but sadly around here people don't let people in that aren't in the acronym.

I was told I could join my college group since "technically" the Q in the "LGBTQA" (the A stands for asexual and asexual only) encompassed Questioning.

For some reason though, they don't let in Intersexed individuals, which got a bit of attention last semester (to clarify, they claimed that it wasn't because of the acronym, but they have used the acronym excuse before to keep people like allies from joining).

I really don't like the connotations these groups are sending. :I

I always say I have weird view on relationships because of the things I've seen/experienced when my own parents got divorced and I completely agree a couple does not need to have sex in order to be pop flyin'. Granted, Tuxedo Mask and I do sexual things, but we don't deem it necessary and quite enjoy just chilling out and playing games with each other. He's my first and only boyfriend for over a year and a half, and meanwhile one of my friends does not want a boyfriend but merely someone to mess around with in bed. Not that that's wrong or anything since it's her opinion and I don't judge her for it, but it's not what I personally consider a true relationship.

I really hate the idea that "all men want sex".

My dad has used it to DEFEND people who have affairs (he still hates that they do it, but he sympathizes with them) saying "men have a need for sex" and clearly this means their wives weren't satisfying them/being stingy with the sex.

I've told him before about asexuals, he thinks they're just lonely jaded virgins.

I can agree in some ways that men have a need for sex, but that's the same as saying humans have a need for food.

But no, it means that (AFAIK) I only feel sexual attraction to people I'm very emotionally close to.

This doesn't mean I want to have sex with ANYONE I'm close to, but rather I have to be close to a potential partner to feel any sexual desire.

However, I haven't gotten that far yet, so I may actually be asexual. I'd prefer to just classify myself as demisexual until I can confirm whether I have absolutely no desire for sex or not.

Plus it means I'm half-god, so that's pretty boss.

It can be a strong urge, yes. And being in a sexless relationship seems possible but just... frustrating, I suppose it the way to put it. A lot of work and effort would be needed, I guess.
