I was doing reading for biology about genetic diseases and I cried for about an hour. The text used cystic fibrosis and Huntington's disease as examples and talked about them in depth, and two of my friends have them. I started thinking about how my one friend essentially has about 10 to 15 years left to live (to about the age of 35) and the other will live to 45 if he's lucky and his mental facilities will degrade over time starting at age 30, to the point where he won't be able to remember things and will have dementia. Jesus fuck. It just pains me so much to know that they have such great plans and just got screwed by chance.
