A couple of my friends adore him. They're almost never seen without one of his books.

First part of huge Amazon shipment just arrived.

Blah blah textbooks Huckleberry Finn (teacher wanted a specific version), A Raising in the Sun, and Writing Down the Bones (an interesting book about how to write a novel which can join my collection).

How did I only just see this? I swear I've been skimming through these forums, and the word "book" generally jumps out at me.

BUT OH WELL. I'm sure, if anywhere, here is where I will make internet friends.

Also, will resist urge to review own book.
Trollololol.

Anyway, I really bloody love The Collector, which is a John Fowles novel who you've probably heard of because some of his other books are famous AND THE COLLECTOR ISN'T FOR SOME REASON GAAAAAH. But for those who haven't read it - most of you? - in really simple terms it's about this socially awkward guy who gets obsessed by a woman and then he decides "Well, the obvious solution to this crush of mine is kidnap lolol" and he kidnaps her, and then half the book is a chronicle of his time with her, her trying to escape, him growing more and more attached to her until the end which is, surprise, she dies of an illness which he refuses to treat, and he plans to kidnap a new woman. And the other half of the book is just from her perspective talking about her life and her philosophies and her beliefs about...everything, really. Art is a big focus. Also, she really kinda sounds like she deserved to be kidnapped, I would ninja kick that bitch in the head considering some of her philosophies but I don't think that was intended. And yeah, it's a great, very realistic portrayal of the relationship that forms between a kidnapper and their victim and, as cliché as it might be, it really made me think about how society functions, and relationships between people, which doesn't sound like a particularly logical reaction until you actually read it. But yeah. You should all read it, and forgive me for this because I am not very good at talking about things I like but I TRIED.

Still. This thread has potential.

Read "Animal Farm" and "The Road" today. Animal Farm went about the way I expected it to, though the ending was a tad weird and creepy. The Road, well it was alright. Certainly didn't help I absolutely hated the style because he was so daisies averse to punctuation at times.

Oh man I'm going to have to disagree with ya there. I loved The Road, and that simplistic, unorthodox style was a part of it.

Any time I get pulled out of a book I count as a mark against it. And few things can pull me out as easily as absent/misplaced/overused punctuation, intentional style or not.

Loading up Great Gatsby for later. Up to Chapter 3 in that one, and if it wasn't required for class I would not even be touching it again. Though it does make me recall Hark A Vagrant's miniseries on it.

Finally reading Game of Thrones (also known as the Song of Fire and Ice) and it's a lot more detailed than the show.

Reading Steinbeck's Winter of Our Discontent.

Ethan Hawley preaching to groceries is so funny.

Steinbeck was obviously an assman.

And I have to read the rest of his works now.

So I started reading Peanuts from the very beginning some weeks ago. I'm currently at January 1st, 1952. Only 17,442 strips left.

Try to read only the first three panels in each one and see if you don't cry.

It doesn't work with the early strips. The ones I've read are not philosophical yet, they're still just tiny gags. But I'll try to remember to do that, could be fun

I actually got the complete Calbin & Hobbes collection a while back. I think I'd like to read all of it in as few sittings as possible.
