Guys, there's no point in arguing about this (if you want to, the GameFAQs Brawl boards are always open, though.) I myself must have clocked in over 500 hours of arguing and let me tell you that it's simply not worth it.

The tourney-style players are set in their ways and they're gonna constantly bring up the "bob-omb during the $10,000 final" argument no matter what kind of actual reason you throw at them. Trust me, a lot less headaches if you just let them fester in their own lies because it's not affecting you.

... Unless you're actually playing against them, then, at which point either a) tell them to leave if it's your game, or b) just stop playing and walk away if it's theirs. Whad're'dey gonna do, make ya play 'em?

I hate how people always say tourney players are "wrong" for playing with items off. The fact that they play with items off isn't because items are "too hard to dodge" or anything, its because it adds luck when a tournament is about skill. Playing with all one item won't work because a player might get lucky/unlucky and have one spawn right in front of him at the right moment. I don't see why this is such a problem. You play the game your way, and let others play the game they want too. Don't say the game was "meant" to be played with items, because if that were true, there wouldn't be an option to turn it off.

Likewise, I hate when tourney players try to enforce their rules in casual matches for reasons other than they find it more fun to play that way (I do, occasionally), but that happens a lot less often.

It's always the wrong argument with you kids. The problem isn't in the tournament rules; those make perfect sense. It's the existence of the tournament itself that is a perversion of the game. "Game."

Really, what kind of people hold these tournaments? "Hey, I'll give $10,000 to watch teenagers play a video game while I sit aside. Party. Down."

I've never really understood the attraction of spectator sports.

The notion of a tournament awarding a massive amount of prize cheddar may sound absurd at a first glance, but being competitive in a video game is no different to being competitive in a board game (like Chess) or a card game (like Poker). The same comparison could be made to more physical sports.

There is nothing wrong with playing games to win a prize. It has been done long before you, your family, your religious leaders, and more have been around.

A pervasion of the game? I don't think so.
