So, I just got my First mod to work. (too many items)
I spawned a new world and saw a HUGE booty frozen lake. "Oh boy, this is crying out for a GIANT ICE PALACE!"
After finishing a dick load of work to make a few huge rooms and connect them ( and decorate them and everything.) I realized That I would need to light them, Torches didn't work so I thought maybe Jack'o lanterns wouldn't look that out of place. After placing a few dozen without looking back at them I randomly fell through the ice. When I surfaced I watched all of my hard work melt.
It is now a big hole of water in a frozen wasteland. /cry

It's light based.
If the ice is lit above a certain level by anything other than the sun, it melts. Really the wonly way to light an ice palace is to have insufficient redstone torches everywhere.

You could try having a one-story ice palace with skylights of glass. Or tier the floors so that no room totally covers the other, and then use skylights. Would that work?
Hm...

One of the servers I go to (well, the one run by the guy I don't have added on some kind of IM device) has a different gimmick each month. The first month was a tweaked 404 challenge, which was pretty awesome, we had this backstory for some reason, nanites were made to make life easier but went apeshit and turned everyone into zombies and brought about weird-booty creatures in the real world (we had ghast spawners on the surface to deter cheating)
It also gave us something to jokingly blame for server problems and shit.

This month is Wind Waker, essentially, there's a lot of ocean, and very small islands. Apparently the nanites all died but the weather controlling ones went c-c-c-crazy and flooded the earth.

I decided to build one of those sea platforms and live on it.
But that was stupid because I bodaciously had a 9X9 space to live on and no more.

So I hollowed out the inside of the tunnel leading up and made a hidden base beneath it.

(It's probably still processing, give it a minute)

I don't know if you guys have seen or heard about it, but the creator of ModLoader, Risugami, made a new mod called Biospheres.

I downloaded and installed it, it's pretty cool. You can find it here: http://bit.ly/oUXNIE

It's not TOTALLY done yet, I can name a few things that aren't done, namely sheep and armor, but it is pretty amazing.

They logged off to make SOI 31, but it WAS 'the-kyle.info'. If you don't believe me, I got screenies.
