I got Platinum just the other day (along with Fire Emblem, which I don't plan to play until I beat the GBA ones (yes, I know they have nothing to do with each other, but still)).

I rarely name my Pokemon. I occasionally did in old pokemon games, but it's usually a bother, and if its not bad enough to have people know you play Pokemon (at that time, playing pokemon not as a kid was something to laugh about), but to go as far to name each one, my friends would just think is weird and stupid. Now though, Pokemons pretty much been, and is a franchise, so I believe it's for anyone to play. May as well name them I suppose.

I'll start nicknaming them later.

@zombiejesus, I did that too. Caught a Bidoof, taught it rock smash, and then put it in my box. ._. Caught another Bidoof to raise, since I didn't want one with an HM stuck on it. Then I released that first Rock Smashing Bidoof. ._.

My friend says me raising a BIDOOF is stupid, since they're weak and blah blah blah; so what I plan to do is raise a BIDOOF to 100 or something, not evolve it (since it learns all the same moves anyways), and kick his butt with it. :[

But for now, I was gonna nickname my PRINPLUP, BIDOOF, so when me and my friend battle, as hes about to laugh when he sees me sending out "BIDOOF", it would actually be PRINPLUP to kick his butt with. :[

But I changed it back to PRINPLUP since we'll never actually fight often.

We fought twice, and I lost both.

I named my Riolu Misriolu, only now did I realize that that could be two puns. The song, and misery.

Shaymin is comin' to the UK 8D

And there's a venue near me. One for my copy of Diamond, one for my copy of Pearl :3
I did the same with Emerald and FireRed at the Cockfighting Society Summer Day Camp last year (for Mew)

You need Diamond or Pearl? ._.

Why can't you get it on Platinum? Not that I like in the UK anyways, but I wouldn't mind getting a Shaymin. o~o

Because Platinum isn't out here yet. If you've got an import copy, though, it'll probably still work. Not sure about Jap copies though.
It's just an unmanned download station, I believe. So there won't be any gruff Nintendo reps turning away eager fans.

EDIT: Judging by the art on the Game site, the Shaymin will be able to utilize Gracidia's Flower in Platinum too <3

Oh, I see. Isn't it only able to utilize Garcidias Flower in Platinum?

I'm not actually very far yet, or know much about DP, but wasn't Skye Forme not available (I think that's what you're talking about)? :x

Yeah, Skymin doesn't exist in DP, nor does Giratina's Origin Forme or Rotom's various alt formes. They turn into their alt formes through special items (Gracidea's Flower for Shaymin; Greceous Orb [sp?] for Giratina; various appliances found in a room accessed by Secret Key for Rotom) but revert if you try to trade them to D/P/PBR or battle them with a D/P/PBR player.

...Yeah, Cockfighting Society is kinda my specialist subject :V

I see. I was reading some stuff somewhere (probably Serebii.net), and can't you get the event items (to get these special pokemon/items) via mystery gift, come a certain date or something? o~o

Get From Wi-Fi

Get from Wi-Fi is exactly what it says on the tin. Using the DS's Wi-Fi Internet abilities, the game connects to the Internet servers and looks for any Wonder Cards that Nintendo has put up. The first use of this feature will be from September 28th to November 4th when Nintendo gives away the Secret Key to Obtain Rotom's Forms over Wi-Fi.

I think that was the date for the Japanese Version, but eventually the US will get such a thing.

Now that I'm re-reading, it seems you get an event item to get Shaymin, but the page says "However, this Shaymin will not activate the Glacidea Flower, but if you already have it, it is transformable." What I want to know is, does that mean it won't be able to use Skye Forme? D: The wording is confusing. How do you get the flower? o~o

Edit: Poke-Page Get. Yay? o~o

The Shaymin found ingame (on the route only accessible if you have the event item Oak's Letter - which btw, Nintendo have never distributed anyway) won't be able to activate Gracidea's Flower and so cannot turn into Skymin. The Shaymin given out at the events will be able to activate Gracidea's Flower - a girl in Floaroma Town will give it to you if you have the event Shaymin.

Same applies for Regigigas, too. The one you can capture at Snowpoint Temple won't unlock the three hidden caves throughout Sinnoh containing Regice, Registeel and Regirock. A Regigigas distributed through events will unlock these caves, however.

That's awful lame... :/

Like I'll ever go to an event.

Also like hell I'll ever have a chance to get one over the GTS...

GTS is so messed up, people want the most impossible pokemon for some of the simplest ones. :/

What's the point of this? Don't you need the three Regis to fight Regigigas anyway?

Yeah, agreed.

But Platinum is kinda on the borderline of being a DSi game - a lot of players will probably buy it with a DSi, especially over here where the DSi will be out before Platinum. Without the GBA slot, the three Regis are essentially unobtainable. It's the same reason why the Legendary Birds also now roam the routes of post-E4 Platinum, they'll be hit by the loss of GBA too.

On a side note, they've chosen the birds to put in Platinum despite the fact that the Johto legendaries are very nearly impossible to obtain already. Getting Ho-oh and Lugia onto Platinum would require you to play Colusseum/Gale Of Darkness to 100% completion; trade them to a GBA Cockfighting Society game completed enough to have recieved the National Pokédex; and then Pal Park it to Platinum.
Same goes for the legendary beasts and Johto starters, although they can be obtained on GBA without Collus/GoD. But only one-per-savegame, and they're notoriously hard to get - starters require you to complete the Hoenn Pokédex in Emerald (and then you're allowed to choose ONE of them); and just one of the dogs will roam around Kanto in FireRed/LeafGreen post-NatDex, dependant on which starter you picked. Oh yeah, and if you're into the Cockfighting Society metagame, that dog's stats are picked as soon as you hit New Game. So if you want something with the right nature and IVs, you either get Colluseum or you play through THE ENTIRE GAME for each capture and stat check.

Why am I saying all this? For me, if nothing else, this pretty much confirms that some solution to this major gap in DPPt's Pokédex (a lot of the normal Johto-based 'mon are also tricky to get without GBA) is on it's way. Gold/Silver DS, anyone?

Yeah - easy cheddar for Nintendo.

I have a Lugia and Ho-oh in my Pearl/Diamond versions - I just used a Pro Action Replay Ex Plus Omega 9,000.

I know an import store which probably already has copies of Platinum for sale in the UK - so I might have it sooner than otherwise possible.

It won't work on region-locked DSi though, if you're getting one.

I was gonna, but then I ended up spending £50 on a foot-high statue of Sheik. It's a cool statue, but looking back...

Oh FFFFFFF!

Thanks for that! I'm probably not gonna get a DSi, but if they're region locking I can wait for a legit European copy of Platinum (just in case there are any further future implications not yet disclosed).
