Actually, it's not. PIFTS.exe actually was a real programming mistake by Norton, which turned into a fiasco because of the proletariats' deletion of topics related to it and the lack of official statements from Norton. You can read about the breakdown of the situation here. However, that is not to say that 4chan was not involved, as /b/ did pick up on it and raid the Norton forums.

Hah! That totally reminds me of something I did to a friend of mine back in grade 9. Apparentally a mutual friend discovered upstanding member of society porn and other non-normal porn on his computer and he told me about it. We were in the school library when he told me about it so I hopped on a computer and created a hotmail account under the guise as George W. Bush and emailed him a whole lot of BS on how the government knows what he's doing and listing "illegal" sites that he's been on and all that and if he goes on them again the feds will get him. Apparentally it was so convincing that he never looked at upstanding members of society again, and 8 years later he was still convinced the feds were after him. I ended up telling him the truth.

Gullible people are the building blocks for some serious lulz.
