I was trying to determine what the deal is with the crispygamer site vs the awkwardzombie.com site since they seem to be quite different. I figured it out eventually, the crispy gamer has select strips between 2010-06-21 and 2011-02-18. While awkwardzombie has all strips made before, after and during that time period... except one.

It seems that the page http://www.crispygamer.com/awkward-zomb ... 06-14.aspx is available only on the crispy gamer site and not on the awkwardzombie.com site. I am guessing that is an accidental oversight.

Crispygamer is a website, among other things it hosts a variety of comics.

Thanks for the link, it seems that the crispygamer website has some comics out of order (I checked the dates now instead of just their order). This made me miss it.
Then this concludes it, awkwardzombie.com is the place to be, it contains all 100% of the strips and they are even in the correct chronological order.

Well, that's to be expected, it being the website of the comic's illustrator and all.

Yes, but I have seen people abandon their own private domain to go to hosting sites for various reasons. Typically financial.
It take me several days of combing through the archives on both sites to figure out exactly what is where.

I've never heard of that. She just hosts them on photobucket. I don't really like the idea of comic re-hosting like that cause it draws viewers away from AZ itself, and AZ has ads that Katie would like to get cheddar from I assume. Though, that's just my opinion.

Er, unless Katie has explicitly given them permission, what crispygamer is doing might very well be illegal...

I somehow doubt they are hosting it without permission... but yes if they don't have permission then they are violating her copyright. She need only send them a DMCA takedown notice (requires nothing fancy, just an email saying something like: "DMCA takedown notice: you are hosting the following files without permission of copyright owner, remove them".

if you read the title of of the one I linked (others are similar) you would notice that it says:
"Awkward Zombie: Rock Throw
Submitted by Katie Tiedrich on Mon, 06/14/2010 - 19:00"

So at worst they were hoodwinked by someone pretending to be katie... which would be a case of identity theft not copyright violation. They will of course have to take down the comic at her request.

Well, I know she doesn't mind people posting her comic elsewhere, but this is blatant re-hosting and the ads on their site means they are, technically, making a profit off of it. I'll ask her about it when she comes online.

Making a profit has been ruled, again and again, to be completely irrelevant to the purpose of copyright violation.

It is quite simple, you are not allowed to host someone else's work without their explicit permission. Either she gave them permission, which means its ok. Or she didn't which means they must remove it. I would be interested to see what she has to say about this when she comes online.

It may have no legal meaning, but if they are making profit off of her work, she may not want it there.

If people are showing it off with no profit gain, then that is completely ok, and she most likely wont care.

While this is being discussed, Dorkly also has Katies comics on their site.

Katie being the copyright holder, she's well within her rights to ask these comics to be taken down if they're being used without her permission (especially if someone else is making cheddar off of them).

Dorkly and Crispy Gamer both asked me permission first. As long as they still link back to AZ I don't really mind.
