Okay, because 'Zachy' is threatening to ban anyone who talks about upstanding members of society in the lesbians thread I'm bumping this bitch.
Talk about/discuss upstanding members of society here.
If 'Merlin' locks this thread the upstanding member of society conversations will crop up elsewhere again - giving 'Zachy' another off-topic related headache.
I suggest we allow at least one upstanding member of society-oriented thread because it's something that keeps cropping up and/or causing problems.
Let's all try to get along, okay?
Picking up where we left off:

Actually, I think the proper term (although usually misused) is:
upstanding member of society: Person in to anthromorphic art
Furvert: Person in to anthromorphic porn.
My fur friend explained that to me once.
We were arguing whether or not my animal characters were upstanding members of society, but I stated they were Anthros.
But the meaning of Anthro, he explained, is an inanimate object or non-human that has human-like attributes.
So a "upstanding member of society" Is indeed the correct name for anthro'd animals.
But because of the negative meaning and instant thought of fur sex that comes with the term upstanding member of society, I only use "Anthro" to describe them.
Long rant is looong.
You're right, your friend was wrong.
I don't like 'upstanding members of society' as an all-encompassing term - especially of anthropomorphic artwork.
Anthropomorphic (or 'Anthro') is correct if it has human-like features/body structure, regardless of whether it is animal, vegetable or mineral.
Calling something 'upstanding member of society' causes problems when you're dealing with characters that are composed of, for example,
reptillian elements...
...because it quite bodaciously
isn't upstanding member of society.
I hope my logic has helped you out there.
