GUESS WHAT

Doctor Who is 47 today.

On this day in 1963, Doctor Who's very first episode aired, starring William Hartnell as the Doctor. He was an old guy, though, so he left after three years because he had atherosclerosis and couldn't remember his lines - something that fans would later call "Hartnellisms". Most notably when he warned two characters they could wind up as nothing but "cinders floating around in Spain". Spain. Not space. Spain. (lololololcopypastafrommythread)
Because of his atherosclerosis, the concept of the Doctor regenerating was introduced, and we got another old guy:

Look at him smile!

Anyway, there are rumors that Matt Smith will be sticking around until Doctor Who turns 50, so we can expect more bowtieness for three more years.

In Doctor Who and the Silurians, the first Silurian story, featuring Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor (best Doctor), the Silurians go back into hibernation at the end of the story after having woken up at the beginning, saying they will awaken again in 50 years.

This episode was broadcast in 1970.

The Hungry Earth, the Eleventh Doctor story with the big mining thing, takes place in 2020.

I think that is pretty neat.

Double pooooost.

The synopsis of the Christmas special has been released.

Quote:
Amy and Rory are trapped on a crashing space liner, and the only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, in a festive edition of the time-travelling adventure, written by Steven Moffat. But is Kazran Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?

Also there might be something wrong with me because I read that "sour dick town"

Here's something else:
Quote:
Smith talks briefly about a new monster that appears in Episodes 1 and 2 of Series 6 which Smith says "is on par with The Weeping Angels" and is part of a story arc from Series 5.

Sounds like a GREAT EPISODE!

So, just how old is the Doctor, since he seems to be the most uncertain of anybody? Well?

And here is an amusing but totally unrelated image:

That was the point of me putting that there.

You know, kind of like THATSTHEJOKE.JPG except with less caps.

Nice.

Supposedly the Christmas special airs at 7:00 PM in silly British future time.

They just look wrong with only parts of their legs.

The Cybermen have been "invading" a number of locations in London in order to promote the forthcoming Doctor Who Experience, opening in London's Olympia 2 in February next year.

The modern-day Cybermen were seen to retrace the steps of their 1960s counterparts (The Invasion) along St. Peter's Steps in front of St. Paul's Cathedral, and later crossing the Millennium Bridge to the Tate Modern. Another promotion saw them boarding a Jubilee Line train, much to the astonishment of travellers!

So, Doctor Who turns 50 in 2013.

Sylvester McCoy (Doctor #7) has said he would like to return for a 50th anniversary special, if one should be made, and many fans are speculating that one featuring all the still-living Doctor actors will be in. Maybe, like they did for The Five Doctors, they'll find suitable replacements for the dead actors. Although Jon Pertwee will be hard to imitate. :colbert:

Anyway, this is what McCoy said about the idea of an all-Doctors special:
"I know that the producers balk at it. All those egos in the same room would be very difficult to deal with."

Also if this was broadcast as a special episode and not as a movie, then it would make it Paul McGann's first television series portrayal of the Eighth Doctor, which would be AWESOME. He was a great Doctor. It's a shame the movie sucked.

The BBC has confirmed this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol will be shown on BBC One and BBC One HD, on Christmas Day at 6pm.

The program has already been confirmed for transmission on Christmas Day in the United States on BBC America at 9pm ET and on Boxing Day in Canada on SPACE at 9pm ET and in Australia on ABC 1 at 7:30pm.

On the 13th, there was a special preview of the Christmas special, A Christmas Carol, at the British Film Institute. The episode was followed by Q&A with Matt Smith, Katherine Jenkins (plays a role in the special, and is evidently a very, very good actor, despite this only being her first acting job), and Steven Moffat.

When asked about some of the elements and emotion displayed in the episode, Stephen Moffat replied:
Quote:
Well, the base line of Doctor Who is a man who lives in a telephone box and saves the universe in a bow tie. So you have to go some to up that. And if you're going to do a Christmas Day episode, which is basically the principle that the audience have had a selection box for breakfast and are probably drunk, then you actually have to sort of move it on a bit. Because, actually, a normal episode of Doctor Who wouldn't be enough at that point.

I think you have to be emotional. I think you have to go on the whole journey, don't you? You have to laugh and cry a bit. A Christmas Carol, oddly enough, the original, is sort of the whole package. It's A Wonderful Life, which is kind of in a way a variant of A Christmas Carol, is the same. Yes, I think you should be...as I say, you're full of sugar and alcohol, you're going to be tripped off into any place at any time.

Matt Smith also responded to Katherine Jenkins on this being her first acting role:
Quote:
I have to say all I was struck by was...it never seemed for a moment that you hadn't acted before. You were completely well prepared. Because on the one hand, you've got Katherine being very diligent and accessing real emotion and really getting in there. Then me and Michael (Gambon) just sort of dossing down. And so I was utterly impressed and she was thoroughly prepared and I'm convinced that she'll go on and do other parts.

I need to get this off my mind.

Almost two and a half years ago now my family switched from satellite to cable tv. I lost BBCA, and with it, my favorite show. I didn't get to see anything after Planet of the Dead.

Maybe a month ago I found this thread, and CN's link to watch online. I watched Doctor Who until I finally had to get off the computer- I saw Waters of Mars and the first two Smith episodes, with plans to watch End of Time and the rest of season 5 and everything else I'd ever missed before I started watching, which was quite a bit.

My parents decided the videos put a virus on my computer, even though they didn't. No more videos. I was depressed for real. I had been basically high on it that entire day I got to see it, and it had gotten my hopes up, and reminded me how amazing it was and how much I missed it. I also got to see how amazing the fifth series and Matt Smith was.

But then I found out that Doctor Who was on itunes for twenty-thirty dollars a season. I was through the roof again- I did some research, and got to looking for a DRM removal tool so I could get them all. I would be so willing to pay that.

I am giving up my search today. Free DRM converters don't exist.
To make things worse, one of my friends was talking about giving me DVDs for christmas...and then that fell through too, today.

I am so depressed right now...I think I'm completely out of options, now, to watch it. I know it shouldn't be such a big deal, but it is, and I am very sad right now. My hopes have been raised sky-high and then dropped so many times in the past few weeks...

I am so sorry for unloading all of this here. I am completely obsessed with this show, and this has hit me hard.

If you watched all of Series 1-5, then there is nothing new left to watch, unless you want to watch the old episodes. If that's the case, then google "tardismedia -episode title-". The nice Tardismedia person has an awful lot of them (maybe all of them?) up on Dailymotion.

Anyway, here is The Eleventh Hour on Wisevid.
