I've come to the conclusion that Texas is bodaciously going back in time. That's the only way they could be heading backwards like this so much.

It will only be a matter of time before horse-drawn carriages become the primary form of transportation there.

I posted about this in the minties thread a while ago.

Still makes me angry.

The logical next step for them would be to re-segregate black people and white people and take away the right to vote from women.

It seems to be the direction they're heading, after all.

Edit: ALSO, if this platform also outlaws "sexually orientated business", does that mean it would be illegal to sell condoms or treat STDs? That seems like a vague statement to me.

I'd, once again, like to point out that it seems none of you actually bothered to do a bit of research and took the news article at face value. Awkward SoccerMoms forum.

That's not to say the article was wrong, I just know you didn't because nobody commented on this utter gem of a paragraph:
The Actual Proposal wrote:
Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown
of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the
fundamental, unchanging truths that have been
ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be
presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to
include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant
special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin),
custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil
penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values."

And the rest of the article keeps bringing up how Homosexuality is wrong a lot! It's hilarious!

They also support corporal punishment. No, seriously, they actually use the words "corporal punishment"!

Additionally: Teach about intelligent design and that evolution is not a scientific theory (although they do actually support teaching evolution too), and government should not provide funding for pre-school education.

For those of you who want to read it:

At they very least, they are VERY strongly opposed against any sort of racism.

Nobody said that the article said anything about racism.
We were simply commenting on how horribly backward Texas seems to be.

That's what you get out of the word "oppose"?

They oppose punishment, civil or criminal of opposing homosexual people.

Basically, they're against when a man is convicted of doing something bad against a homosexual person.
What do you get out of the word oppose? Sunflowers and rainbows?

I don't really understand how this "platform" thing works, anyway. I'm assuming that means that these laws haven't been passed yet? Who's voting on them, anyway?

I'd look up what "platform" means but that word has a billion definitions so I still wouldn't be able to figure out what it was.

Oh excuse me I asked a question.

I should have just continued on pretending I knew what I was talking about and therefore embarrassing myself more in the long run.

Clearly I should have somehow magically figured out what exactly a "platform" is by thinking about it, or just continued making assumptions based on the vague things I do know about them.

Sorry Plasma, next time I want ask a question to make sure I don't have an incorrect idea of how something works, I'll just stop and continue on being unsure whether I'm correct or incorrect.

I live in Houston, we have a Lesbian Mayor. If that's not trolling Texas, I don't know what is.

Texas was founded on stealing land from Mexico. Seriously. Get off of your soapbox, politicians.

It doesn't piss me off so much that they're banning gay marriage as it does that gays seem to be blamed for the collapse of society and treated as if they're not people with the same rights to privacy as the rest of the country. What the hell.
