Dragonite is based on European dragons.

I'd say Charizard and Salamence look more like European dragons than Dragonite. But that's just me.

Charizard looks way more like a dragon than dragonite. But a dragon starter would be a little unbalanced.

Charizard is able to breed with Dragons. And you can also teach him various Dragon-type moves this generation. I'd say he's fine the way he is.

Charizard can also breed with a good portion of the other starters, including the other Kanto starters and all of the Grass-type ones. As well as all of the pseudo-legendaries aside from Metagross.

Of course, this is one of those subjects that gets really really bizarre if you think about it too much...

Wrap is soooo broken in this game
Thing is, once you use Wrap, your opponent can't attack! If Fireflower is faster than a Slowpoke or something, FF can attack and attack until it's PP is gone! Unfortunately Wrap is Normal-type, so it doesn't get STAB.
Don't you think it's a little wrong that it can wrap others and do whatever it wants with them?

Additionally, they give you a lot of options against this gym normally! You already have Pikachu, being an Electric type. Then you have Bulbasaur, which is a very good grass type to train anyway, Bellspout and Oddish, two decent grass pokes. Compared to the last gym where all they basically gave you was Mankey, this is cake!

First of all, I lost (you bastard)

Secondly: You take a LOT of stupid risks playing Hard Mode. When your Pokemon gets confused with one hit till it's dead, you switch it out.

I think Fireflower might have survived a confus hit.
But honestly?
I've had only one useful Poke die, and that was after a series of dangerously close calls.
I'm just a really lucky bastard.
