also, i would've liked to have seen mccain win and then follow the policies he used to have instead of the mega-republican crap he had to do in order to win the nomination. good luck to obama and i hope he can actually bring about this change he says america needs, or a lot of people are gonna be really rustled.

I'm glad Obama won. I think it's a shame what this campaign has done to McCain. He used to be a Senator I had deep respect for, doing what he believd in and what was right regardless of what his party thought about it, but he seems to have redifined himself to be a typical dirty tricks, far right Republican in order to appeal to the conservative base. I just hope that he goes back to his old self now that he's lost. --Bucket, you posted while I was still writing this and beat me to it!


I can sort of see the point of people who say a church has the right to not perform or recognize or whatever a marriage, but marriage has its own unique financial and other benefits, like visitation rights and a slew of other stuff. I honestly don't care if it's called marriage or not, but all couples of marrying age should be able to get these same rights whether it's a civil union or an actual marriage or whatever. It's not a religious issue, it's a civil rights issue. I hope other states don't begin following CA's and the others' example. I'm not too worried though. The generation of most of the forum-goers here is much more supportive of gay rights than the generation in power right now.

I'd rather here "Oh joy, Obama has a well thought-out, effective plan to establish democracy in Iraq within a year and fix the nation's economy!" than "Oh joy, Obama is the first african-american president!"

I mean, yeah, he's the first. But if America goes down the tubes during his presidency, is him being black going to make up for it?

I didn't want to shove my faith in Obama down people's throats; I've talked to quite a few people already that were in favour of McCain winning. I didn't mean to end up sounding so racist with all this... I just thought it was historic.
