The "accidentally" should have been enough to tip you off, dammit people.

Some of you must be blind as hell.

Well they were raiding the guys house and they shot her accidentally. It is kinda the fault of the parents/grandparents for not turning their kids in if they know they are doing/selling illegal drugs or what not and especially for keeping young kids around said drugs.

Its Detroit, the police are the good guys. You guys don't hear about all the kids or old people killed by random drive bys or because someone stole something and is running away shooting and hits some innocent not involved or what not. Plus the guy the police were after in this case not only was connected to drugs but was also suspected in the murder of a 17 yr old a week before. While what the police officer did is horrible, it was an accident and that officer will have to live with it for the rest of their life and feel guilt over it. You think these people that murder others really feel bad about it later? Doubtful.

Holy crap guys, are you all blind? Did none of you actually read the article and just read the title instead? Here, allow me to point it out for you:

There! The gun was fired by both the policeperson AND the child's grandmother! They are both equally responsible for her death! So if you're going to blame someone, don't just blame "the police" and nobody else!



This is all aside from that you shouldn't be blaming anyone in the first place, it was clearly an accident! And not an accident that could be brushed off as just not being careful, since it was two people forcefully trying to have control of a highly dangerous gun, both for legitimate reasons! Trying to blame it on not even just the policeperson, but the region police as a whole just strikes me as some sick, perverted "fuck da police" mindset!

And if the police had gotten their numbers right and raided the correct building?

Even if it was a mistake, even if they can be forgiven for being in the wrong place, and even if you keep in mind that the shot was fired when the grandmother was trying to save the , this really does make them the ones in the wrong here.

Down here we had some idiot pretending to be a vigilante and fucking caved in an old man's head on the assumption that he was a sex offender.

He also got the name of the man wrong. The man he was looking for was in goddamn Arizona or some shit.

Frankly, I'm seeing a lot of "what if"s. Fact is, things went wrong, accidents happened. I don't see how you can place the blame entirely on the police. Maybe Detroit is known for having a corrupt police force, but does that really mean you can just lump the honest, hard-working officers with the dirty ones? What a terrible generalization. And here everyone gets so riled up when people lump Christians or aethiests under one banner.

All in all this is a sad story and condolences go out to the family. That is all I care about. I don't care about placing blame on people in this sort of situation.

I can hit a little old lady with a car, yes it could be an accident but it doesn't mean I can't be blamed. then imagined I try to sue the little old lady for being in the way of my car. Maybe I'm misinformed or looking at it the wrong way, but I still think that the police were being completely incompetent.

In your example, you can be blamed because you clearly weren't paying attention while driving.

If a gun accidentally fires, it's not necessarily because someone wasn't paying attention.

You just know that the thing about it being an "accident" with grandma wrestling the officer is a lie. I don't believe it for two seconds, it's too convenient. A weak old lady wrestles with a strong, able officer and he accidentally fires the gun which HAPPENS to hit a little girl square in the HEAD?

Suuuuure.

First off they didn't raid the wrong place. It was a house with a downstairs and upstairs. I saw it on the TV news here and it was definitely a stand alone house.

Second, the grandmother is 46, thats not too old thats about mid-life now I am sure she isn't too strong but she could easily tug at a gun and cause the officer to accidentally shoot, or maybe the officer was jumpy because they were raiding the home of a suspected murderer who was armed. Do not forget that the police were doing the right thing by being here.

The Detroit police may not be the best police force in the world, but at least they are trying. You guys don't live in Metro Detroit like I do. While its not even close to half as bad probably not even 10% as bad we still get the local news which talks about everything going on in the city. Every day there is a murder it seems over something trivial and sometimes it involves an innocent 3rd party who happen to get caught in the crossfire. Sometimes its a young girl, other times its an elderly person. This is just making bigger news because its the police who shot instead of some 17 yr old thug.

how about we say it was an accident and leave it at that instead of de-railing and getting off topic and becoming douchebags like we usually do :U

yeah it was horrible, it was a terrible thing to do. let's keep it at that.
