Actually, the colonies drop STACKS of cash when you blow them up, so it's actually quite profitable.

On the VERY destructive end:

Throw rocks.

Yes, rocks.

Asteroids. Each one will instantly destroy a city, and once you drop the terrascore to 0, the ALL but one of the cities spontaneously explodes. And then it's a simple matter to take out the last one. Anti-matter Bomb.

This also leaves the planet with more magma than land. YAY!

e.g. I turned an entire planet into lava, then used it as a death planet for all the creatures I didn't need...
