Picked up Megaman Star Force 2, in part because I couldn't find the first game in the series.
So far it seems not bad. These games seriously do not deserve the chewing out that they've been getting from game reviewers. I've been seeing scores like 3/10 and 1/5, which is pretty mind boggling. Reviews like that are normally reserved for games which are completely broken. I was wary about buying the game because of that.
...
But seriously, my only two (and a half) complaints about the game are pretty common really...
1) Terrible fucking plot. Horrible, just like pretty much the entire Megaman series. For shame people.
2) Goddamn it seriously Capcom, stop making the first 30-60 minutes of your games EXACTLY THE FUCKING SAME. I don't need to go through a tutorial on how to play the game YET AGAIN. And I don't need to go through legions of identical Mettaur and Cannons at the start of every game. Yes, yes, it was nice that you added bunny monsters in like Battle Network 3. Yes it was nice that you made radically changed Cannons in Battle Network 6. But now we are back to basic Cannons and Mettaurs again, without even the goddamn bunnies! Would it fucking kill you to come up with some new monsters to populate low level areas? Hell, I know Mettaurs are daisies near a mascot of the Megaman series, but can't you like, I don't know, come up with a flying Mettaur, or a gun Mettaur, instead of the EXACT SAME PICKAXE METTAUR WITH THE SAME AI AS THE VERY FIRST GAME STILL?!??! I've gone through 6 games of this crap, why do I have to go through a 7th crap low level area in order to get to the interesting part of the game? Hell, if you are too lazy to think up new low level monsters, JUST THROW THEM OUT, LET US START AT LEVEL TWO GODDAMNIT. I DON'T FREAKING CARE
2.5) Oh yeah, the graphics design looks like a 6 year old was leading it, and is constantly plagued by "kool" stuff. Things that you would describe with lots of "k" and "x" and "z" because it's so kool and xtremez.
Other than that, once you get past the first goddamn level, the game is pretty awesome, and everything that I enjoyed about MMBN 1, 2, 3, and 6.
