It has to do with learning curve and skill gap. Smash, being a nintendo game, is easy to learn, and those who are good are only one or 2 steps ahead of the rest.

However, pit up... let's say me, against a veteran street fighter, and I'll not know how to do diddly shit and get my booty handed to me deep fried with a side of ranch.

EDIT: also, Smash is not only new, but it appeals to a large demographic. The game is a fanservice after all, pitting yer favorite games against each other. Also, smash is a party game. It's just disguised as a fighting game. Don't be fooled, that's how people lose eyes.

So if you don't like someones joke, they shouldn't make it, makes perfect sense to me.

daisies, you're just getting ridiculously tangented. It has nothing to do with whether I think the joke is good, but that those kinds of jokes are so weak that it's pathetic. They don't have any substance; they're just random guys laughing at random shit. If they laugh at that, might as well tie a stick on their heads with an apple with a face drawn on it, and they'd laugh forever.

that isn't what you said at ALL

This isn't convincing at all.

Compared to, say, Marvel, Guilty Gear or Virtua Fighter, I'd agree, but there are other fighting games that are easy to learn. Though I would account "Nintendo fanservice" into the equation.
Certainly has nothing to do with "competition" and "being good".

This just isn't true. At least in Melee; Brawl is still too new for me to settle on this, but right now I'm slanting towards "No, that's bullshit".

Who plays against veteran Street Fighter players quickly anyway? Online isn't worth shit (hoping HD Remix will fix that), so you'll mostly be playing with friends. If your friends are good, they'll teach you stuff, if you all suck, you can learn together.
And I would bet that a "veteran Smash player" can beat your booty faster than you can count to 100.

I'd guess the reasons would be "community effort is low nowadays" and "people don't have friends these days", but I already said that I was digressing, maybe I'll digress back in this direction, but I'll stop for now.

No need for insults, I'm just playing devils advocates. When I say smash, yes, It should be implyed that I'm referring specifically to brawl.

I use the term "veteran" lightly, but if it makes any difference I frequent the arcades and occasionally match up with dudes on the 3rd Strike cabinent. I can pull it together a little bit with Yun, but frankly I get my booty handed to me most of the time. S'all fun and games though.

Street fighter did get it's reputation in arcades, but arcades are dying, that may also be a factor.

Just so you know, one of the reasons I'm trying to digress is because this topic has been discussed to death, especially on SRK and the likes.

Well met.

Moving on, I dun like video gamers who insult their teammates when the team loses. It's a team, the blame is supposed to be shared.

I would like everyone in this thread who is making an booty of his or herself to please stop, thank you.

I don't like people who only like modern games. Specifically, I don't like people who only like shooters. Maybe that's just because I don't play shooters, but I think older games deserve more recognition. I've also had quite enough of Grand Theft Auto, thank you.

Oh, and did I say I don't like snakers? Because I don't. Thank you.

Thank you.

I sat and wondered for some time which specific trait I hate the most about other gamers. Then I realized it could be boiled down to one specific line.

Anyone under the age of 17.

That pretty much sums it up, yes, certainly there are exceptions. But from my experience they are few and far between. Seriously though, just unplug your mic and do the world a favor. When I was 12 I had a brand new N64 without internet play. So the world was, for the most part, spared my of my idiocy.

But that donesn't mean I can't complain about it later.

I'm under seventeen, but I always ask my teammates what I should do if I'm new to a game. Oh, that reminds me. There was some eleven-year-old on TF2 one day, and our intelligence was captured, so he breathes "d***" real dramatic-like into the microphone.

I laughed real hard.

kinds that piss me off? *puts up the flame shield* Cocky bastards in brawl that pick snake, and think that they are the best player(s) in the world just cuz they can win with the most broken character in the game, and won't pick any other character cuz they know they'd get slaughtered in a heartbeat, so they decide to mock you everywhere, bragging acting like they are so daisies good when in reality, they only win from a broken, overpowered character, and wouldn't last one second if they picked anyone else.

It's a split between backseat gamers and overbearing tourneyfags.

Oh my gosh, my roommate is the worst backseat gamer in history. He'd watch me play CoD4 waiting for me to be done with the TV, and he'd be giving me tips on how much I was sucking and how I could suck less. It rustled me off to no end, I actually threw the controller at him and walked out on several occasions. It was horrendous.

My sister is the worst kind of backseat gamer. She doesn't actually play any video games. And she's just... Awkward, it makes you want to scream. Also:

My biggest pet peeve in gaming is when someone has been watching you play for long enough that they begin to refer to the main character or party as "we". It's totally okay when a gamer refers to his avatar as "I," but the person didn't DO anything. The thing I hate about it is it's so easy to do. I did it on accident once while I was watching my friend play Okami. Oops.

So, my friend and I visit into a local Gamestop frequently whenever we need to burn some time, and I gotta tell ya, unless you're looking for a game, Gamestop is boring as hell. Anyway, so I'm playing someone's abandoned game of Brawl, so I get stuck using Fox.

I don't like Fox. Nothing personal.

So I says to my friend, an avid Fox/Wolf user, that Fox sucks, and then this stereotypical fat basement gamer weirdo browsing behind me, out of nowhere, goes, "Fox doesn't suck, you just don't know how to use him!!!" Um.

tl;dr: nothing you guys havent already read in this thread.
