Lots and lots. It's way harder to learn than Smash Bros. and it feels less "free".

I prefer TvC though because I prefer more traditional fighting games.

Gold Lightan is now my favorite character in this game. I wanted to play as him ever since I first found out about him, and I practically breezed through the arcade mode (and Time Attack mode) with him. Also, you can only play as him, so I don't have to bother with the partner-switching frustration I dealt with before. I epseically love how he fights. With smaller opponents (i.e. most of the cast), he throws them at the ground then body slams them, and when bigger oppoents fight him (i.e. PTX-40A and another Gold Lightan), he throws them over his head. Seriously, giant robots fighting each other rock!

...So, yeah, I'm going to check out the Gold Lightan anime now.

PS, I just realized that Mega Man Volnutt has the same Japanese voice actor as Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece! SWEET!

There are fighting games like Super Smash Bros. - Guilty Gear DS, Jump Ultimate Stars, Viewtiful Joe Red Hot Rumble, DreamMix TV World Fighters are probably the most well known.

I finally played it, and to honest, I'm mildly peeved. Why can't more fighting games be like Super Smash Bros.

I'm sorry, what.

Super Smash Bros., to me, was easier to figure out than the fighting games everyone else is used to.

I think the Angry Video Game Nerd summed it up best in this video (at 5:14):

I'm sorry, but when I have to (download) a move list and have to remember all kinds of combinations and buttons, that just ruins the game for me.

But that's about the only think I don't like about Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, everything else I love.

I play fighting like button mashers, even if they aren't button mashers.

I do not do well a lot.

Well, that's the thing. Some people enjoy practicing combos enough to where you can do them on command.

Well, eventually, you'll start wondering what you accidentally did to use a fireball, for example. And then you learn the other moves.

I don't particularly feel like making a hueg post, so I'll let you off easy.

I don't actually own TvC, so I can't verify, but I'm assuming you can access a command list through the pause menu or something. Go ahead and take a look. Then try some.

If it's anything like most fighting games, you should be able to pick up easily. If you're rolling in from Smash Bros. then yes, it may seem like some foreign language, but seriously, try it. Practice with it. Fighting games have come a long way since the stuff you linked.

It's just sad to see the actual gameplay turn you off, especially if you like everything else about it.

Yeah, I know that, that's why I have "download" in parenthesis, what I was trying to get at was memorizing button combinations to get to the sweet movies, when in Super Smash Bros., it's all much simpler, and there's no button memorization whatsoever. It's like with that game, I know what I'm doing, while in this game, I just mash buttons and hope for the best.

And it's not like I'm NOT trying it, it's just I started out a bit out of my league and I didn't know what I was doing, and I always get frustrated when things don't turn out as I'd like them do. I'm getting used to it, though.

Anyway, I finally decided to settle on using the GameCube controller. Right now I'm playing as Ryu on the Arcade mode and... Well...

I FREAKING LOVE PLAYING AS RYU! Shooting Hadokens, throwing some Shoryukens, and I swear when I managed to pull off that Tornado Whirlwind Kick or whatever it's called, I giggled like a school girl. Not only that, but I find it easier to fight as him and Gold Lightan than any character thus far... Although I've only played as Viewtiful Joe and Mega Man Volnutt, so yeah, keep trying out characters.

I can execute most of PTX-40A's moveset on command (i.e. intentionally - not just mashing), and I'm getting better with the Tekkamen too.

I find the analogue stick doesn't always differentiate between when you're doing a quarter-circle or half-circle though.
