If fantasy creatures with animal characteristics were considered upstanding member of society, whole mythology would be full of it.
Minotaurs? upstanding member of society
Sphinx? upstanding member of society
Manticore? upstanding member of society
So my answer is obvious, in my opinion no.
But WoW Taurens are pretty much straight Minotaurs, yet are also almost universally considered upstanding member of society.

The word 'upstanding member of society' has a negative cling for me, can't tell why. For me the upstanding member of society fandom is more about the sexual stuff then simply humans with animal characteristics, or even a certain type of drawing style.
Honestly, I agree with you. There doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence to the contrary. Or at least not any convincing evidence.
I won't disagree with you there. But I've always been sexually deviant. upstanding member of society porn is just a fun new way of being sexually deviant.
...BUT...
Fun fact: I refuse to commission my fursona naked, or even drawn sexily. As sexually deviant as I am, and as much as I like upstanding member of society porn, it really bothers me the idea of having my fursona drawn in a pornographic manner; even softcore.
I would throw a fucking screaming fit if someone ever drew my fursona sexually, even as a gift. It would just really upset me.
So what the heck does that mean?
