Yeah I was drawing proportionally/anatomically correct stuff long before I started doing comics, and like my art teachers (and father) used to say:

"It's easier to bend the rules when you know how to follow them."

Cartoons are relatively easy when you understand proportion and use reference and crap like that.

I also worked as a graphic artist for real cheddar at one point so can do surrealism/abstract/graphic art pretty well too.

However, I do find that my cartoon work influences my more realistic stuff, and my realistic stuff influences my graphic stuff, etc. etc.

These things are not as black-and-white as some people may have you believe - doing all kinds of art reaps rewards in various mysterious ways.

The thing with cartoon style drawing is that you have infinitely more creativity with the character than with realism, since with realism you're stuck with anatomical rules which are far more scrutinizing. I like both, but the basic human sometimes can look boring.

Exactly. There's so much to gain from learning different types of art and it will make you a much more varied and successful artist because you can do much more than only focusing on just "I can draw cartoons".

It saddens me when I see people not wanting to step out of the box and their style and art sometimes suffer for it.

Sheila is upstanding member of society, she likes to be in the pants of a hairy person.

I agree Dark.

I can sit with a pencil, an easel, and you can sit anything in front of me. And within an hour or two, I will have created a nice black and white rendition of it.

But so what? It's not anything that I couldn't do with photoshop in 60 seconds. :(

Photoshop has taken a lot of the art out of art.

Yeah, Photoshop can do that in a few seconds.

You could try bringing something to it that Photoshop can't - maybe texture or something else.

Impressive though.

Wow, that's really good.
It looks almost more like watercolor to me but that's amazing you got it to be that smooth looking on paper.

I like pencil.

Paints are messy, I get all like "ewww, I got paint on my hands" and I don't wanna work in it anymore.

I love messy art supplies omg

I sometimes even just brush paint on myself to see if it's the right tone of color I want.

But there was a time when people kept questioning I am one because I havea story mainly centered around "upstanding member of society" characters.

You also draw yourself wearing a fursuit.

yaminae your art reminds me of an illustrator's work (one that you might find on the front page of some books)

Something like that.

When I was younger I did have a sort of fursona thing.

For some reason I saw myself as a PANK flamingo.

I don't even know what that means.

Nowadays I'm comfortable with being human - more or less.

If I did have a fursona now, I would probably have a human face and torso with dragon-like limbs and cybernetic stuff - more chimeric I guess.
