I would consider myself a upstanding member of society. I've always enjoyed anthro characters and the creativity the artists use in the designs and how personalities tend to fit better with animal types. Like the calm and relaxed turtle guy in Kung Fu Panda. Also I tend to find humans in fantasy stories/games kinda dull. Like WoW for example, on the Alliance you get a Human, a shorter human with a beard, an even shorter human with a big head, an elf and then a draenei while on the horde you get giant cow people, undead zombies, orcs, trolls, and elves. I find it much more interesting playing a character with uniqueness rather than something i play as every day.

well alliance is terrible, so just don't even go there.

and an undead zombie not only redundant, but just a rotting human

Also if you think human characters in fantasy are dull, you obviously didn't read enough. At all.

Meh, I've never felt the desire to spend cheddar having my fursona commissioned. So this is like the only thing I have of it.

Image

For the most part, it's just an excuse not to have to draw humans, cause it kinda sucks to draw them, same reason a lot of Disney movies and the like used animals frequently; cause it's easier to draw them, and be expressive with them.

Except... I never draw anymore. So yeah.
Best thing to come out of it was I drew my own custom awesome emoticon. Image

I'd be lying if I said that wasn't what I was trying to do when I went with a skunk. Then I actually got farther into the fandom and realized that skunks are like, one of the biggest and most popular sex symbols...

I've never been a upstanding member of society nor had a fursona.

But there was a time when people kept questioning I am one because I havea story mainly centered around "upstanding member of society" characters.

Out of the other 10 stories I have that only have humans in them. :psyduck:
I don't really think upstanding members of society are any easier to draw than humans. It feels like the difficulty is the same or more because you have to add the details of the fur, the different facial and body shapes that each animal has etc.

Humans at least have a consistent body shape (granted we're all the same species but meh). Also, I'd think it's a lot harder to show facial expression with upstanding members of society since it seems harder to contort their faces to something silly, especially if they have a muzzle like a dog.

I'd get bored drawing people all the time.

Yeah there can be subtle differences in human body shapes (ectomorph, mesomorph and endomorph), but I'm more interested in drawing all kinds of different body and limb shapes - a requirement which is met by drawing anthropomorphs, and more animal-frame-based creatures.

My opinion on it, is that with humans, I feel I have to fight hard with the balance between realism and cartoonismishness. It's easy to fall into anime-like shit if I'm not careful.

With anthropomorphic characters, I feel like I have more control over the balance between realism and cartoony.

Which of course is an entirely different complaint from what I originally said... I suppose it's not so much a complaint over the difficult of drawing humans, but rather the difficulty of drawing them well. Anatomy flaws are much more apparent in human drawn characters, for example. When drawing anthros, I just feel like I have more flexibility to get it right.

It's fun drawing things outside of the box and I certainly see where you're coming from with this.

What I said probably relates more to me because I tend to try to retain a realistic look to my cartoons. I've been trying to work on that though.

I agree. I can do realism. I mean fucking hell, I can do nearly-photographic portraits.

But that's not interesting. That's boring to me. The part of art which is fun to me is developing and perfecting various stylization of art.

oh my goodness that's something my artist Grandfather makes sure to tell me.

I mainly got into realism because I drew more Animu and cartoon styles for a while until after getting some pep talk from artists I admire, I started drawing in Realism to get better.

And WHAT DO YOU KNOW my cartooning actually started to not suck.
Realism can get boring until you start having fun with it by doing things are aren't real or logical. Which is why I really like surrealism mixed with realism.
