Ska:
Russkaja
Already enjoying mainstream success in Austria, they fuse ska with russian folk and punk, great, catchy, fun stuff. Might be extremely hard to find, but it's well worth looking for.

Operation Ivy
The original masters ska-punk, bands like Rancid are nothing but a bad Op-Ivy-ripoff.

Jazz:
Farmer's Market
A Norwegian band that fuses virtuoso jazz with Bulgarian folk and pop melodies, really fun stuff.

Weather Report
Seminal jazz fusion band. Start with the album "Heavy Weather".

Miles Davis
Get "Kind of Blue" and "In a Silent Way".

Yeah, both those bands are good.

I'll be checking out all other suggestions.

Someone explain to me what Ska is. Everytime I've asked, I've gotten an answer along the lines of 'I have no idea either'.

According to that article, there was a Jamaican ska band called Byron Lee & the Dragonaires.

Awesome.

Annoying singer, mediocre drummer, simple guitar lines, bland trumpets.
