Defenestrator stepped outside of his house by the lake. A small breeze wafted through his hair as he straightened his tie. It was refreshing, rejuvenating, even. He watched as a small school of fish swam by the shore, glistening in the morning sun. Just then, Def's stomach let out a rumble, one that he knew well.

It was time for breakfast.

Watching the school of fish disappear into the distance, Def knew what he wanted to eat, as his mouth began to salivate by the mere thought of it. Briskly, he walked back to his modest home and searched through the fridge. There was some salmon left over from the night before. He took it out and set it into a frying pan on the stove to crisp it up a bit. While the fish was cooking, he rummaged through the cupboards for anything else that he could possibly eat. The only things worthwhile that he could manage to find were a jar of peanut butter, a container of honey, and some bread. Taking all these ingredients, he made a peanut butter and honey sandwich. He'd always loved the taste of honey, ever since he was little. Just as he finished, an acrid smell pierced his nostrils. The fish was beginning to burn!

Quickly, Def rushed over to the stove and turned it off. After letting the fish cool for a few minutes, Def packed his lunch into a picnic basket and went outside to eat at a nearby dock. Standing at the end of the dock, he looked out at the serene lake, entranced by its endless beauty. "I'm staring at Eden. I cannot describe how lucky I am to live here, amongst nature. Truly, this is paradise," he thought as he took his hat off to scratch his head. He sat down and quietly appreciated the view for several more minutes before he finally reached into the picnic basket to take out his lunch.

Just as his hand slipped into the basket, a park ranger came rushing up to him, shouting about how he couldn't have a picnic due to some kind of special park rule. The man took the picnic basket away from Def before he even had the chance to explain. Infuriated, Defenestrator rose to his feet and struck the man across the face. He fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes, gripping his face and crying out in pain. When he finally removed his hands from his face, they revealed several long gashes. Horrified at what he had done, Def approached the man to try to help him, but he just recoiled from him and began to run away as fast as he could, eyes wide with fear.

In shock over what had just occurred, Def slumped down to the edge of the dock, staring at his reflection in the water, a conduit to his soul. "What have I done?" Def said softly, "I'm a monster." He had never been more perplexed in his life, but then suddenly, it became clear to him. The craving for fish, the desire to have a peanut butter and honey sandwich, the picnic basket, his hat and his tie, the park ranger, and the gashes that a single blow made to his face; it all made perfect sense...

He was a bear.

It was spoiled for me by having to scroll up the page and glancing at that last sentence was the worst thing I've ever done.
I feel like contributing something I wrote but it's terrible compared to that masterpiece
