I think at the point where they had a black guy with things living in his afro, we shoulda given up hope for a great story. Somehow I can't see those two elements mixing.

The healing after the fights don't bother me, if done properly, it could be used as a way to make non-boss fights difficult.

True, but there are only 6 playable characters (with two temporary PC), so it would have been cool to be able to chose the characters we want in our party.
Not saying that the fixed party means the game sucks, but still.

Final Fantasy seems to fall into that catagory of games that people just passionately love without stating why. If you look carefully, the original post of this thread does exactly that.

Well, a fixed party isn't necessarily a bad thing. FFIV had a fixed party, and that came out well.

Also, wasn't FFX really linear? I seem to remember it being so.

There's one big question on my mind:


Do big spells still take BLOODY AGES to do?! Or have they finally done what the Pokemon 3D series always did and make all moves take about the same amount of time, but make the stronger moves look more impressive?

No but apparently the summons are retarded. Odin turns into a horse, Shiva into a bike and the black guy's into a car.

It's not particularly something I love. My favorite was the 10th game, which I really liked a lot. I also thought the 9th and 5th games were pretty good. But for the most part, I generally felt the games were subpar as far as RPGs go. 12 was outright disgusting, and one of the least interesting RPGs I ever played; boring combat, uninteresting art, most of the cast was paper-thin characters (Although <3 Balthier), the story was not fleshed out. Blargh.

The only game I thought was extraordinary was FF10.

In the category of Traditional RPGs, both the Golden Sun and Lufia series stand out as two that for their time, I enjoyed the more than Final Fantasy.

I think a lot of the fuss over Final Fantasy comes from the graphics.

As I stated before, I've played the demo. Thank God, the battle system is nothing like XII. This time, its more like an advanced version of the ATB battle system. (The one used in most FF games).

After watching some cutscenes and bosses videos, curtsy of MasterLL on youtube, all I can say is.....YES, OH GOD YES, I AM GETTING THIS GAME!

*coughs* Sorry. . .my inner fangirl decided to kick in. Anyway, I do like the combat system and am very curious as to how the story progresses. The only thing in Japanese I can understand is "Yes", "Stupid", "Dammit", and "Let's go" so I can't really make out what they are saying at all, but it does look in very interesting.

Anyone asking...no the combat is nothing like FFXll. They made the combat in to real time turn based hybrid that I have only seen done in very few games. Spells also get no individual long animation. Just the summons, which you might not even have to use.

The bosses and music scores are epic too.
