I get the feeling indigo hates Super Mario 64 because super mario galaxy has much better graphics and no other reason.

I just... I can't even... IF YOU DIDN'T ENJOY A GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE - SAY, SUPER MARIOS BROS 3 - WE CAN'T BLOODY EXPLAIN TO YOUR ITS PROS AND CONS, NOW CAN WE? WE CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW THE GAMEPLAY WAS AMAZING AND A STEP FORWARD FOR GAMING TO SET AN EXAMPLE FOR OTHERS - YOU DIDN'T SEE IT EVEN BEFORE YOU CAME TO YOUR DECISION THAT GRAPHICS AND NEW TECHNOLOGY ARE THE ULTIMATE QUALITY MAKER.
That might be relevant if the calender by me said 1992. But it doesn't. This is the year 2009, soon to be 2010. It is not judged by how it was, it is judged by how it is, and what else we have.

Get this notion into your fucking head.

Gameplay improves. Graphics improves. Story and writing improve. Sound improves. Every. Single. Fucking. Thing. Improves.

And if you'll notiuce the quote,

New =/= better. You can pop an old game into your NES and have just as much fun, if not more, than a brand new game you pop into your PS3.

My listing games was my way of saying fuck no you can not. As I didn't grow up with them I'm the unbiased party to the discussion.

I've stated this before, but I don't think you noticed.

Indingo, you know how you always mention GoW II? That's a PS2 game.

Which means it's old.

So, obviously, it must be bad game, seeing as how an older game couldn't possibly be as good as new games!

As its yet to be surpassed by God of War III in terms of gameplay, story, sound and gore, and as nothing else has managed to touch it in 3 years, it stays where it is. When something gives me that, it will become my new favourite. When something can mindfuck me more than Killer 7, I will replace that. When something lets me kill more deserving people in sneakier ways than Hitman: Blood cheddar, I will replace that on my list. And so on and so forth. Nothing on my list is permanent, just the current gold standard, which will eventually be surpassed

GRAPHICS DON'T FORGET GRAPHICS.

UNLESS YOU ALREADY MENTIONED THAT, THEN YOU'RE UP FOR CONTRADICTING YOURSELF NEXT TIME AROUND.

GO GET EM' CHAMP.

Just for future reference, can any of you comprehend a concept that isn't an extreme?

You know, I've been playing videogames for 17 years... Modern games, old games, everything in between. And yet, even today, my favorite videogames were and still are SNES games (and consequently GBA and DS games as well)

I've played innumerable games from every generation, a list over 3000 games strong (which I listed in that "videogames you have played" thread like 6 months back).

And I'm left wondering... Why? Why do SNES, GBA, and DS games, all stand out as overwhelmingly populating my favorite videogame list?

My reasoning?

Most genres of videogames were hurt by the move to 3D graphics. First Person Shooters, is the only genre that seemed to notably gain quality in the new medium.

What makes the games on newer consoles less enjoyable, seems to be an overcomplicating of everything. Gameplay on the SNES and handhelds tends to be tight, efficient, and the games can be programmed to have less margin for error.

For all the years I've been playing 3D games, it never felt quite right moving a character in such a way. I mean, look at what happened to Legend of Zelda. Behold the magic solution of Lock-on targeting to fix what would be otherwise a nearly unplayable game (seriously, try to play without the lock-on); it works for what it does, but is it fun? In the world of 3D videogames, with mechanics like lock-on targeting so common, it feels less like a game and more like an interactive movie.

...

On another note? To this date, I've never seen a usage of 3D graphics which managed to compete with the simple beauty of a well-crafted hand-drawn sprite.

I pretty much disagree with everything you just said, Karilyn. Most of my favorite games would not work if they were not 3-D. But I respect your opinion and understand your viewpoint may be different than mine.

YOU SEE HOW EASY THAT WAS INDINGO THAT IS HOW YOU VOICE AN OPINION

(Edit: In case I am misunderstood, the blatant hypocrisy was included on purpose, but I still mean the point that I made)
