And yes, I do have proof, anyone heard of Daikatana?
Daikatana isn't terrible because it's an old game. It's terrible because Romero was a lazy, egotistical fucker.
Correct. It isn't bad because its old, its bad cause its outdated. Outdated, the key singular term here, applied to this and any other game.

The perspective people keep taking is that the games are locked at being judged by their competition at the time forever. I compare every game ever straight up with no qualifiers or handicaps.

protip: calling a game that was bad when it wasn't outdated bad because it's outdated makes no sense.

that's not what I said. I was saying that calling a game that sucked even when it first came out bad for being outdated doesn't make sense.

No, it sucked then because it was outdated then. Thats pretty much the only reason it sucked and it sucked so visciously because of it it is considered one of the worst games ever.

...you're kidding, right? I mean, I know the Atari 2600 was the best of its generation, but that doesn't mean it didn't suck profusely! The graphical capability and sound wasn't anything special for its generation, the lack of quality control and their OWN affection for cheap licensed games was outright ridiculous, it spent millions of dollars into rubbish projects and games (you're not forgetting about E.T. or Pac-Man, are you?), it's lack of appreciation for the development teams led to loads of competition, all of its attempted sequel consoles failed miserably because of hideous business decisions, and it practically DESTROYED the videogame market! The best thing the Atari2600 did was screw itself over so ridiculously bad that it gave Nintendo room to restructure the entire videogame industry!

Oh, it did suck, but I dunno, the sounds and graphics are so simple and classic sounding/looking to me. The rest of what you said sounds more like a shitty company fucking up their product than an outright bad product, but you're right, they did a lot of stuff to practically ruin themselves and like you said, hurt the market for everyone..

I was born after the atari was all but booted off shelves...? I wish I had gotten the chance to play it before that happened...? People the same age as me don't know what an atari is if they don't play much/any video games...?

:|

I had no idea what you were trying to say. It's like you kept switching between was/wasn't 6n6

I know what an Atari is.

I think I'm even younger than you are, right?

Man I wish I had been born when the 2600 was around, or even just the NES. I started playing games with a sega genesis. in 2000. (not that i'm saying it's bad but wow I was behind by like a decade.)

Only by a year, maybe not even that if our birthdays are close and I just beat you by a month or something.

And I am older than Decker again probably and I know what an Atari is. I knew it a long time ago.
