'Your graphics hardware must support at least pixel shader version 1.1 to run this game!'

:( I bet it'd work on my sister's computer but I can't be arsed about asking her. Is there anyway to get around this problem apart from buying a new computer?

Buying a new graphics card.

That, and updating drivers. If updating drivers doesn't do the trick, then you DO need to buy a new graphics card because it IS horribly ancient!

How would I go about updating drivers? Also, once I've bought the graphics card where does it go? I really have no idea, hah.

Control Panel -> Device Manager

Although considering it's a big thing like a graphics card, you should be able to get it from the brand's website instead.
What graphics card do you have anyway?

You find out what your graphics card is, and then go to the creators' website.

They'll have all the software you need, free for download on there

I've got the device manager up, but now what? How can I check what graphics card I have? I remember something about it ages ago as we meant to get a new one as it stopped playing Sims and stuff but we never did. What do you mean the brands website - do you mean Valve and you download stuff from there or something? Thanks for being so patient.

Run "dxdiag" (either from the Run command in XP, or from the search thingy at the bottom of the start menu in Vista/7), click on the Display tab, note the name and manufacturer of the graphics card. Visit their website and poke around a lot until you can find your one.

I lost.

I would be more helpful but Explorer crashes when I try to open the Control Panel, about 50% of the time, I don't really wanna deal with it.

Here's a good site that'll help you out

It's more helpful than me.

I like how only one of the links on the front page is actually relevant, and that's just if you have XP. Man you're lazy!
