I think this may very well be the first time I've ever said TL;DR to a webcomic.

Look at this page. For those of you that don't want to spend 5 minutes reading the text, there is no joke. It's a statement on how marketing sets up unrealistic expectations and predictably fails to deliver. The comic toys with the idea of setting incredibly low expectations to remove disappointment, as well as improve satisfaction in the unlikely event of success. The last panel is exactly what one would expect: the customer being disappointed.

What joke could possibly be worth this many words?

I once made an attempt at tl;dr'ing this comic. The results are meh at best.

Original comic.

Fix'd version:

90% of the words and panels are entirely unnecessary. They were just an excuse for him to whine and lob insults at the mean old bullies who used to pick on him.

Subnormality isn't bad, in the sense that if you're bored you can actually read it without RAGING, but even then it's not any good either. It's like RaineDog in that sense.

When I said Subnormality isn't bad, I don't mean it's good. It's mediocre, if you skip the verbose ones.

Also, in the sports one, is the weird bald guy supposed to be a homo or something? Why is all his text PANK?

Yet another flaw of Subnormality, he's oftentimes very unclear with his jokes.

Look at the title of the comic again a little more carefully, though. He's supposed to be a physical manifestation of the character's brain. Which doesn't really make a lot of sense if you think about it for more than 5 seconds. Why would a person DISAGREE with his own brain? Shouldn't the brain enjoy hockey as much as he does? The premise is paper thin and the payoff is very little.

I'm pretty sure having a big heading saying "What if your brain was a boy" counts as clear enough. Let alone having the boy highlighted right beside that heading, as well as being dressed in thick wrinkly PANK and having a lightbulb on his clothes.

To argue that a brain shouldn't be used as a symbol of a person's intellect only is really nitpicking, in the very same sense as complaining about the phrase "follow your heart" making no sense.

I mean, until people start actually believing that your heart is where your emotions are. *cough*ex-girlfriend's-parents*ahem*

I read a few of the strips, and thought, "Eh, there's not that many words."

Okay, I know I already made my point about XKCD in general before, but
Image
WHAT?! THE?! HELL?!!
I DID NOT EVEN KNOW IT WAS POSSIBLE TO BE THIS CREEPED OUT!

I mean, if a comic like Eegra or Nerdroid did it, it'd be understandable, since they're notably surreal comics. But Xkcd isnt! At all! Those people are meant to represent actual humans! That little man down there shouting "baby" is actually meant to be a newborn baby! It... it... it... AAAAAAH!

Uh. Yes, it is. Not all the time, but often enough.
I don't know why you complain about this one, but not about the one with the radioactive Carl Sagan or the guy who wants an USB port implanted in his arm, for example.
