Ohh! Someone mentioned Lackadaisy!

I love Lackadaisy. I'm always checking for updates.

The artwork is beautiful and professional, done by someone actually in an artwork career(She does the art for a videogame). And when you read the FAQ, she says she doesn't know what a 'upstanding member of society' is. Also, that she replaced all the humans with cats because it is easier, she says, make it easier to express emotion in comic/art form.

I will quote it here:

Lackadaisy FAQ wrote:
Q. Are you a upstanding member of society?
A. Uh. I'm not entirely sure what that means. I draw upstanding members of society (if you can't think of a less schmaltzy name for them), but I'm actually a not-very-upstanding member of society upright primate. I suspect you are too, unless you're a cat walking on the keyboard. Get off the keyboard!

Lackadaisy FAQ wrote:
Q. Why cats?
A. When dealing in sociopathic criminalism and gratuitous violence, how could it not be cats? Don't take it too bodaciously, though. It's mostly just a device I like to use for characterization. The mobile ears, tails, and big eyes help me emphasize gesture and expression more than I could with human characters, they allow me to be as ridiculous as I like, and, well, they're just plain fun to draw.

You know what's fun? Try reading a upstanding member of society (or 'anthro', I'm not used to making a distinction) comic, and replace all upstanding member of society characters with normal humans. See if it changes anything.

Storywise, it often doesn't.

That applies to a lot of stuff though. An easy example is pointing to cartoons. Would it change anything if looney toons, or disney cartoons had human characters instead of anthro characters? Meh, well, I suppose you'd lose the Duck Season / Rabbit Season jokes.

Though I think it would be sad if we didn't have Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny in our childhood memories. Or hell, we'd lose characters like Pinky and the Brain, or Animaniacs.

...

On a side note, the only anthro comic I've read was Inverloch. In that story, yes, it would have mattered if you replaced the anthro characters with humans. Then again, that's because the story was based on three races... Typical Humans, Perfect Elves, and some sorta monsterish looking race to be hated by everyone else. Using anthro-goat/wolves makes them cuter and more sympathetic than using something like goblins.
But apparently, despite being reasonably cute and sympathetic, they were apparently justifyably hated. They did some pretty amoral things
I'd actually recommend Inverloch, and probably shouldn't be talking about it in a bad webcomics thread. The beginning is a bit weak, but it really develops into a LotR'ish fantasy, with a pretty solid story and good characters. A part of me wishes the author would go back and clean up the first couple of chapters up to her newer art and writing quality.

Unrelated, I've started reading Jack. It's twisted, but in a very interesting way. I wouldn't recommend reading unless you can take some mature stuff, though.

You haven't seen nothin' yet, Ame.

Also unrelated: I recognize my horrible grammar in that statement.

Everyone is a pervert deep inside. The only question is, do you let your inner pervert out?

I like twokinds, or rather i like certain characters and how they interact in twokinds. Many of the humans seem very one-dimensional and i quite litterally want to smack my face into a wall. It feels like, very often, the secondary characters have more thought and development put into them than the main characters. For all her flaws, (not in character but the character in general being badly put together) I like flora, i just wish she had more of a backbone, she seems pathetic and demure to me much like Luna in Dominic Deegan, which i must admit while i read through its entire archives i wouldnt reccommend it to anyone to read. It was entertaining but not mindblowing by any streach.

What REALLY irks me the most about Two kinds isn't the whole upstanding member of society-love thing, its the character Trace Legacy, they could NOT make him any more of a gary stu than they already have done. I hate him and wish his part was played by someone who didn't look like they were a starter character of pokemon and thusly in his twenties. He doesnt look his age, his hair makes me want to get a pair of sizzors and hair dye to make him look more normal.
And furthermore he's the most generic character i've ever had the misfortune of reading through. two kinds would be so much better if they hadn't made him such a boring peice of cardboard. The whole "dark trace" additon, made my eyes roll. The whole "two sides" to a main character thing can be done well if its done right, but in this case it makes him look more like a gary stu. I know what the writer was trying to do but you really have to be delicate with that kind of thing otherwise the jekyll/hyde crap will crumble very easily under the hand of an inexperienced writer. The recent developments have done leaps and bounds to all characters and Trace, visually, looks alot better i think and its clear the writer IS trying to make him more 3 dimensional but it was painful to see the relationship between them grow when it seemed so.... forced. Trace reacts in generic ways toward situations we know to be wrong, adding a bit more life to his character would be refreshing.

It's not the relationship that bothers me so much as it started as a simple, generic love story, and then suddenly he constantly wanted to either actually draw it or imply they were having sex constantly, and then he introduced the wolf character for the purposes of hooking up more characters and causing some of the stupidest twists ever.
Does he really think he's not making it obvious Flora is pregnant?

If Natani is supposed to be a male trapped in a female body, why the fuck does he suddenly act like a preteen girl just to introduce the love triangle between Keith, Laura, and himself?

And for a character that's supposed to hate their body and hate being naked, Natani has gotten more naked "screen time" than Flora. (I'm using hyperbole, but it wouldn't surprise me if the character actually has.)
It didn't bother me as much until I looked at his dA and it was like he was embracing drawing stereotypical cookie-cutter upstanding member of society characters. Everything was/is suggestive and pushing the lines between rule-abidding and "you can't actually call it porn because I don't draw my upstanding members of society with genitalia".

I feel stupid for typing all this. :c

I think the problem with the main character is that the author started the story as a very inexperienced writer, and made a poor main character. He's clearly improved both his art and his writing, but it's not like he can just retcon his main character's crappy design at this point. It's too late to pretend the problem was never there and fixing it in the present would take a long time and a lot of effort. Possibly more than the author is willing to spend.

I could make a ton of observations about Trace, but they don't belong here. Hardly anyone reading this is likely to be interested enough with the comic to keep reading my opinions of it. I've already talked about it too much, in fact.

A moral to Jack?

Sure, it's "innocence invites tragedy".
