So, today was the Terry Fox Run at my school today. For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Terry Fox Run is a run done all over the world (but mostly in Canada) to raise cheddar for cancer research. It's in remembrance of Terry Fox, a guy who ran over 5,300 km across Canada in 143 days...

with one leg lost to cancer, and ending the race with golf ball and lemon-sized tumors in his lungs.

So of course, this guy is a really great role model in Canada, and our school participates in the run. Our school is actually the top fundraiser for the Terry Fox Run in all of North America, so everybody gets really psyched about it at our school. I mean, he's practically a religion here. You can't go to this school and leave without some respect for the guy.

So anyways, the run. Seeing as it's such a big deal here, everyone goes all out for the run. This year, there were people dressed in camo (with a banner saying "Even I can't hide from cancer"), as Napoleon Dynamite ("Cancer is a freakin' idiot!"), baseball players ("we're hitting cancer out of the park"), and for some reason, girls with nothing on their tops but push up bras and garbage bags (I don't even know, but it was hot). And of course, there was yellow and blue (our school colours) paint, and lots and lots of shaving cream for the grade 9's.

In a few years, our school is gonna reach the $1,000,000 raised mark, so it's gonna be awesome.

tl;dr: Terry Fox is srs bsns in our school, not so much outside of Canada.

Uuuuurgh I hated the Terry Fox Run as a kid. My school had some kind of different program where you jumped rope, and however many jumps you got, you raised a dollar or something. I much prefered jumping rope to the running, maybe because where I grew up was ridiculously cold and always rained, and we had to run outside but we could jump rope where ever we wanted.

This was my first year without the Terry Fox run.

I feel guilty.

If I had known about this I'd have walked home from school today instead of taking the bus like the lazy boy that I am. I guess I'll do it tomorrow, then.

I never knew anything about this before, but I'd like to learn more about it now. I'm off to wikipedia.

Interesting costumes.
Any reason to go topless is a fine excuse, right? xD

We're having ours in a few days, I'm certainly looking forward to it. An hour or so to walk around with friends and raise cheddar is certainly nice.
