I was reading in another Forum's Worst Web Comic thread and they were tearing Concession a new one.

But then the creator came on to it and started having a friendly chat with them.
They all end up liking the guy, even if they still hated the comic.
I had this fur friend who said it was his favorite webcomic. He showed me some pages that I thought were funny.
I heard things though. Like, about the strange and vulgar story arcs in it. I don't think I'm interested in adding it to my list of webcomics I read regularly, but it does have a few good pages from what I remember. :psyduck:

Concession just seemed minorly stupid to me up until the brain cancer = accidentally molesting children.

ALSO WHY ARE THEIR EYES SO HUGE. WITH LITTLE TINY PUPILS.

What did you think we were talking about?

Was this, by any chance, the Cracked.com forums? Because that's pretty much exactly what happened over there, and he was indeed a surprisingly decent person.

Yeah, I saw that thread too.

Of course, having read and enjoyed the comic, I kind of had a bias for him :|

That thread on Cracked is actually the ONLY thread I have ever read on that's site's forums.

Also, Law For Kids is awesome, and anyone who says otherwise has no soul.

That's a paradox. People without souls are the ones who can relate most to the Lawforkids cast.

In order to make the claim that there ARE good upstanding member of society comics, that are clean without "OMG disappoint my parents CITY!" I hereby refer: http://www.lackadaisycats.com http://www.brokenplotdevice.com < both funny and both "incidently" anthro comics. I honestly could argue there's a difference between "upstanding member of society" and "anthro". "upstanding member of society" is usually what gets associated with horrors like Fur and loathing in las vegas and the recent fursuiting idiots that appeared on the tyra banks show with chewfox.... *eyeroll* upstanding member of society basically is where they use the therm "disappoint my parents" and "fur" in the place of common nouns "is somefur in here" "anyfur's around" "this is my fursona" "IM BEING FURSECUTED!" <...make the pain stop please. Anyone using these terms deserves to be ripped a new one on the internet.

Anthro is different in that animals are used to replace humans without all the creepy stuff. Basically Disney's Robin hood is a good example, only once or twice was it brought to the other character's attention that one character was such and such species and even then it was fairly subtle. Lackadaisy and broken plot devices handle this beautifully. I could also make the argument for Catena manor but they do call attention to species in-comic. Still theres no stupid terminology you see in most "bad" upstanding member of society comics.

That being said I do like Twokinds. Which does peter into the "upstanding member of society" category but only slightly. I know that it could EASILY be seen as something FAR far worse than it actually is if you went over it with a fine toothed comb of criticisim.

Like I said, different properties of art. To someone outside of the loop like myself (I seem to have an obsession with strictly bad webcomics), "upstanding member of society" and "anthro" mean the same thing, mostly because as far as the art is concerned, they are the same thing. The difference is in the subject material, and I suppose that in that sense I still haven't seen a single good "upstanding member of society" webcomic.

I looked over the archive of Twokinds over a day or two and asked myself if the story would be any good if there was only one species, human or otherwise. It really wouldn't. The presence of different sentient species in the comic and the persecution against them actually helps the story much more than racism ever would, and the different cultures that come from these species actually stand out, unlike most stories where being half-animal is purely aesthetic and has no effect on a character's priorities, diet, or biology.

I'll take a look at those other two later.

You know what's fun? Try reading a upstanding member of society (or 'anthro', I'm not used to making a distinction) comic, and replace all upstanding member of society characters with normal humans. See if it changes anything.

Storywise, it often doesn't.

Unrelated, I've started reading Jack. It's twisted, but in a very interesting way. I wouldn't recommend reading unless you can take some mature stuff, though.

I don't think the author of Jack is a good enough writer to cover the kind of mature stuff in that comic. His tiny-toons characters really don't help either. That's all a matter of opinion, though.

But like I said, try reading through Twokinds and imagine all the characters as humans. I agree that most of the time the story is hardly affected, but not in this case.
