I'm gonna try updating the forum for the first time in like a decade so strap in, it'll probably be down for a bit.

Captcha for registration should be fixed. Downloading a backup of the forum files which is going to take a while, will proceed with the actual forum update once that's done.

Please let me know what other problems there are related to the lack of ongoing maintenance.

A forum update? surely this is a front for a forum deletion attempt - but you know if you tried that the entire web server would crash.

(thank you for updating oh my god)

Dunno if they're related to the maintenence specifically but I know a bunch of mod/admin functions are broken. If there's a way to purge the absurdly long banlist (IP and username) that'd probably be a big help in cleaning up the backend a bit, and maybe restore one or two of the people who got autobanned for accessing some page the wrong way.

Still working on this. Deactivated what was previously the default style so the forum probably looks different but I haven't actually done any of the "real" maintenance yet.

So - turns out that not only was the forum architecture horrifically out of date, the web server architecture is even more out of date. That's a whole endeavor, so I'm putting this upgrade on hold.

Right now I'll see what I can do to fix a few problems without needing the upgrade. On my list:

* Cleaning the ban list - DONE
* Restoring mod/admin functions
* That's it

Let me know if there's other important stuff that could use fixing

Can you let me know which mod/admin functions are still unavailable? I think everything should be good at this point.

Hey, awesome news!
Biggest missing function I can think of is the ability to sticky and unsticky topics, and to post announcements. I believe in the admin panel, Global Moderators has that ability activated in the "Tomfoolery" forums, but deactivated for all four subforums, along with all other forum permissions (thankfully we can still post because we're also still in the Registered Users group!).
Also, clicking the "Ban usernames" options in the admin control panel leads to a broken blank page still. Can't really think of anything else right now!
Thanks for taking a shot at this!

Mod functions for the other subforums should be available now.

I'll need to clean up the banned usernames list later, unfortunately.

(As expected) now that registration is working again and the ban lists have been reset, I do see the spambots returning. I’ll see what I can change to improve spam protection later today.

Awesome. Aside from bots being a pain, someone also brought up the issue of passwords possibly being stored as plain text in one way or another. Here's a link to their thread about it.

I’ll look into that - it’s not like there’s a “store passwords as plaintext” option so I have no idea if that’s actually the case but I’ll follow up.

Looking at that error message again, I'd wager what's specifically going on is the content of the POST request being logged by that ZBlock plugin generating the error page. With some luck they've patched that in a newer version?
