That being said, unless you plan on going to tourneys or something, it doesn't matter if your main character is objectively bad or not. I play Ganon knowing he's a crap character. He's just fun to play with against friends, and getting a nice spike with his dair or landing an uptilt/warlock punch on For Glory is always fun. I imagine playing Samus is the same way, I just don't play her.

Exactly. Samus is a unique character with a few fun moves, but not many good ones. Landing her weird, laggy spike is or getting a kill with a charge shot is fun and can make the character feel powerful in the moment, but overall she's still playing at a significant disadvantage.

I actually understand and respect Sakurai's philosophy in making Samus, Ganondorf, and similar characters so weak: they're good in low-level play because of their damage output (not across the board for Samus, but her charge shot is mighty powerful and most beginners won't cope with missiles well) so if they didn't have matching weaknesses (awful frame data, and in Samus' case low priority) then they'd be horribly unbalanced at that level, even if it would help in top-level play. If Samus' utilt came out faster, if her usmash could scoop people up like Megaman's, if she wasn't a sitting duck after a missed grab, etc., she'd be pretty good at a higher level, but against casual players she'd be way too good. ((That's part of what's cool about Project M, in my understanding - because PM is made for serious players, every character has been balanced for serious play and this issue doesn't really come up))

You can kind of see this in Corn, who plays subtly like a better Samus - a weaker charge shot is compensated for with better side-b zoning, a better up-b for doing damage at the ledge, a better nair that does less damage but works in more cases, etc. etc. They even share a few weaknesses, like weird up-smashes that are hard to hit with. Overall, Corn is a bit harder to use but much more capable.

Samus is very much a beginner character with straightforward options that make high-level play with her much more difficult. Not to say she can't be played well, just look at someone like Afrosmash, but other characters can go a lot further on less skill.

I've added Zero Suit Samus to my rotation and I feel I'm really getting the hang of her. I initially thought her down special was a slower, more awkward version of Sheik's flying fish, but I just wasn't using it right. The enemy burial provides more combo possibilities and it's a relatively secure meteor. I'm having fun player her.

Absolutely cannot wait for comics. Ridley finally joins the roster having been almost 4 years since the "Grudge Match" comic. How will Samus react? Wolf is back, and he apparently brought Pichu, Young Link, the Ice Climbers, Squirtle and Ivysaur / The Pokemon Trainer, and of course Snake. Oh, and the Inklings are here too.

Oh no. I've just realized.
This is an excuse for Katie to start posting non-stop Metal Gear comics again.

Calling it now, we're now going to get a 3-comic rotation with Smash Bros, Metal Gear, and then one random. Won't that be fun?

So, I've been playing a bit of Brawl, and Snake in that game is a lot of fun. Practically hyped myself up for his reveal by accident.

Also, yes, Ridley is in... Wonder how Katie is going to handle that for a comic...

This game is looking up to be amazing, and is probably the only reason why I'm getting a Switch this year.

Nobody talkin' 'bout that Grinch leak? No?

Y'know the one which kinda gives away the whole roster maybe? With those characters? No?

The one with the Banjo and the Kazooie? With the Geno? With the Mach Rider?

I have cheddar for a Switch but I don't think I'll ever have the time to play the daisies thing if I get one. Ugh. I dunno. Maybe if Smash Bros. Ultimate actually turns out to have a story mode or something I'll actually get a Switch. I dunno.

Turns out it has a Switch. And the Grinch leak is fake.

daisies, I swore I was done with videogames and wouldn't get a switch even though the next Smash looked sweet but Piranha Plant makes it hard to resist.
