AWKWARD ZOMBIE

I was taken back to the previous project (the one that made me depressed for half a year) at work and it's a non-stop shit show. I've been tasked with refactoring one of the most complex part of the frontend. Unlike the extreme majority of the application, that part was not sloppily pieced together by amateurs with no idea of what they were doing and then lazily patched up repeatedly week after week for two years by a bunch of other people who didn't want to properly rework it to fix bugs, no, but it's nevertheless extra complicated (with reason). There are a billion business rules littering the whole thing ("this particular person cannot click on that if some value buried 17 levels into the data models isn't similar enough to the value of that other field, except when they can for other reasons, and vice versa"). That part of the application needs to work with like 300 fields spread across 50 different tables all linked together except when they aren't. Fair enough.
My job is to refactor the whole thing to reduce the amount of queries to the database without breaking anything. We are forbidden from actually writing our own SQL (the database query language) and instead are forced to work with against shitty declarative wrappers that work terribly. I managed to do it in two days despite being constantly interrupted because I'm everybody's bitch and then I got told that I'm expected to look at the produced SQL to make sure there are no fields or joins that are not absolutely necessary. So basically, select 45000 fields from 50 tables and filter them, group them, order them, reorganize them, associate them, analyze them, transform them and consume them in one single select clause and no joins because data-driven applications should not use data. Like everything in this fucking project, my task is by definition a complete overhaul but I'm supposed to not change anything and still make it work 10 times better by sheer force of will and it has to be ready and tested yesterday.

Ugh. It's one thing if there's a bot posting to a thread, therefore changing the icon to "New Post" mode, when it's not an actual post by a human being. It's another thing when the bot features a bajillion keywords and links in a blockwall of text, and even posts to the Birthday thread.

You have to be extremely dickish to make a bot that posts to those kinds of threads. I don't care the reasons why it would ever post to the Birthday thread, the fact that it does is a really dick move.

I doubt it actually "looks" to see what thread is what.

Still gotta wonder how many clicks they actually get doing all that though.

We had a fuckton of snow last week
It rained on top of it, which melted it all friday evening but the water had nowhere to go
It froze overnight, making the parking lot a perfectly even ice field and covering every surface with icy rain
We got another fuckton of snow on top of that inch of solid ice

I had to meet my partner for a math homework, which is always my favorite thing to do on a Sunday
Spent 15 minutes failing to open my car doors because the ice had gotten inside every seam
Took the bus instead
When I came back the one hour of sunlight my car can get each day had thawed 1 door so I was able to get in and turn the heating on so I could get rid of the snow
It took 1 actual hour of non-stop effort + full heating to get rid of the ice in most windows (it didn't work on the side that was turned away from the sun)
The snow plow tractor thing guy was going around the parking lots, making small mounts of snow that he would later push out
I wanted to turn the car around so the other side would get sunlight -> tires have no traction because perfectly even ice + 6 inches of snow
10 minutes later I get it to move forward, only to get stuck on ice before I could attempt to turn around
5 minutes later I get to finally turn it around into a parking space that isn't mine
I try to back up a bit to move over to my parking space -> lose traction midway
I BACKED UP INTO A MOUNT OF SNOW THE PLOW HADN'T YET MOVED
Stuck knee-deep into snow on one side and on dangerously slidy ice on the other side
After 15 minutes of fucking around being unable to do anything, the snow plow guy gets out and helps me push my car so I can go back to the wrong parking space -> fuck it I give up

There's barely anything left to eat in here and I can't go to the grocery store when I can't do 2 meters in a parking lot without getting helplessly stuck and I have classes tomorrow

So after that pleasant weekend+Monday where I didn't eat anything because I couldn't leave my apartment because of my fucking car, I broke down again and dropped out of university again again and had my car taken for repairs thus couldn't leave my apartment for two weeks and got charged 500 dollaridoos to replace the front brakes which were completely fucked. This was in late January.

Guess whose front brakes are fucking up again since late March after not even 1000 km?

I'm going to Birmingham this weekend for i63 (though tbh the main thing I'm lookin forward to is getting to hang out with my TF2 buds again like last year), which is good, but I'm 90% sure my monthly problem, which was SUPPOSED to be due yesterday, is deliberately putting itself off until friday, which is bad. I stg if this horrible meatsuit I pilot makes me have to suffer through horrible cramps for the entire train journey and the entire weekend

Someone returned today to the group I'm in after a long absence, and monkey brain decided to have a panic attack during the meeting like a good trustworthy organ. I feel like it may have come across wrong, like my panic attack was tied to that individual, but I sure the fuck hope not, because she's a fucking nice person

The panic attack was actually tied to myself because I think I said some stupid booty shit (stupid, not harmful) and I wish I could fucking undo it, but I can't, so brain decided to panic instead

Same. I love reddit because some of the subreddits are really informative, but the stuff on the front page just serves to make me mad. I feel that it's causing me to have a somewhat unrealistic perception of the world.

Look at all this cool Megaman shit I COULD have but can't because there's no collector's edition for the Switch and there's also not going to be a physical copy for the Switch in Europe at all

They pulled this shit with Megaman Legacy Collection too!!!! I just want some physical Megaman merchandise with robot masters on it so I can be a big nerd but nowhere wants to enable me

Also, in a similar vein: nerd shops are the worst because they just sell the exact same Overwatch/Fortnite/Rick & Morty shit in every store, there were tons of stalls like that at i63 and me and my friends had to hunt high and low to find the one singular obligatory TF2 thing (which this year was RED & BLU t-shirts)

I guess I feel the same way about book stores only ever having the same generic manga titles on their shelves. Not enough oddball stuff. It generally all looks like the same generic high school crap to me these days.
