Managed to get the weekend off so I could do a mad dash and get through the back half of my edTPA* stuff in two days, now that my video is FINALLY done, after school closures and absences pushed my filming back by like, a week and a half.
Got some macaroni and cheese, some delicious coffee (and a pot of tea on the way), great lighting to get working, and my internet is fast enough to actually upload my videos in a timely fashion. Fuck yeah.

*edTPA is a huge, portfolio-based assessment for teaching certification that I think is a nationwide option, but Washington state requires it for graduation. It involves an absolutely inane degree of overarticulation of your planning, Video taping evidence of your classroom procedures, environment, and engagement (and then analyzing the hell out of that), and finally overanalyzing a bunch of assessment and performance data after the unit is done.

My old router died so I finally had a reason to replace it. My new one has QoS settings so now I can limit my siblings' bandwidth and don't have to worry about them hogging it and giving me 300 ping when playing games. Feels nice.

My sister gave me her slow cooker (they got a bigger one) a few weeks ago and I'm using it for the second time today and it's been simmering for 5 hours already and it fills the place with a delicious smell.

I don't have any special thoughts for weekends, but my brother surprised me with a Nintendo Switch yesterday, so I may as well join in on the "this weekend is gonna be good" train.

I actually have a weekend, and I get to attend an Orff conference/workshop tomorrow. (In music education, there's a whole set of methods built around the ideas that were compiled, published, and popularized by Carl Orff. The ideas focus on the concepts of developing musical understanding and skill through play, processes similar to language acquisition/development, and connecting it to all other subjects and non-school knowledge they might have. It's basically the ideal philosophy/structure for a constructivist teacher.)

Also, today was my last day student teaching, and while I'm pop flyin' that my free/project time is going to go WAY up, I'm sad that I'm not going to be in that classroom anymore. Lots of kiddos hugged me, kindergarteners drew me pictures, and one of the sixth graders made me a little gift basket with caramel corn, and some little plastic music symbols that she made.

Children are the sweetest. I used to read a lot of ESL teacher stories, blogs, comics, etc ( http://www.marycagle.com/letsspeakengli ... -off-we-go the best one), and whenever they get to the inevitable TIME TO GO HOME FOR GOOD part it would make me so sad to read about all the stuff the students would do.

Oh man I didn't know anyone else ever read Let's Speak English, it's great.

I'm pop flyin' because for once I don't feel like I'm drowning in homework even though I probably am, and I'm hyped for whatever distant point in my future I get a Switch. Plus drawing class is pretty great.
